Ok, the fire under my car the other day melted a small hole in the inner CV boot on the drivers side driveshaft. I am wondering if this is fixible by just replacing the boot. This just happened yesterday so the car hasnt seen much driving since the incedent. I have read on here that the quick fix boots are just temporary. How temporary would it be in this case. I would rather not take the whole shaft out, but if it is recommended by you guys, then I guess thats what I will do.

Thanks

the split boots are junk. get a rebuilt halfshaft from AZ, 69 bucks, last time I checked, lifetime warranty.

Just get the boot for that end, $19 from NAPA. Clean it, repack and install the new boot.

SINCE you're in there, might as well do both ends. $19 for the other end as well. Some people would rather pay the extra $30 for a new halfshaf. Your choice.

just get the speedi boots from pep boys. SDPatt had one on his car for a "temporary" 100,000 miles. HAHA. I put one on my car a couple of months ago. So far so good.

I used sealant to seal the seam and did not intend to leave it installed that long. I don't recommend them, but they can do the job until you can get a real boot installed. I do not have any split boots on my car now.

Well, being that I do not have alot of cash flow right now, I think I am going to go with the split boot. Thanks for the info guys.... I should be graduating soon, and getting a real job so that I can spend more time.... (And Money)... on my car... Thanks again.
