Hey there guys and gals,
I am in the process of buying a red 91 plus and im swapping the interior from it (black leath) to mine (grey leath)... it just dawned on me today that the plus has a sun/moonroof and mine dosent therefor i have a stylish hole in my headliner if i dont do this... has anyone cut a hole out and installed one? i dont think there would be much problems but pics would be appreciated. and yes i am going to have a red 1989 Plus.

Before i get curbstomped for taking a plus apart for parts on an 89 let me tell you that it has lik 50% rust on it. and im sure that the frame is rusted as well.

I dont think anyone has done it as a diy project. You mostly likely wont get a full working moonroof like the plus had, because their would have to be alot of considerations made for drip rails and roof bracing. If I were you I would just recover the headliner with a solid piece of fabric and throw it up, probably never know the hole was there. Also, without the moonroof you save 25 lbs plus from the top of the car. I know becuase I took my moonroof out and replaced it with lexan.

Keep in mind that the headliners are different.
Other than the obvious moonroof hole.
The non moonroof headliner has a higher rise, allowing for more head room.
The moonroof headliner is lower to allow for the drainage and track.
You could probably put a moonroof headliner in a non moonroof car.
But not visa versa.

It'd probably be more difficult than you had hoped. If I were you I'd just take the headliner you have in your car (the grey one) and re-upholster it with black fabric. That way you keep the solid headliner (no hole) and you get a black headliner. You'd probably have too many problems with sealing and like others said, with the drip tracks and what-not, if you tried to go through with this by yourself...

That makes a whole lot more sence than my idea, sometimes my brain no worky.
