OK all, some of you may know me as SHOpala since I had fabbed a set of 2000 chevy impala headlamp housings into my 91' SHO for the 2003 convention in Madison. Well, the car was not completely finished at that time and on the way from Iowa to Madison I noticed the headlamp beams were crisscrossing. I have investigated things to the nth degree and I just do not think they will work in the way I want them to. So, I am asking for suggestions/advice as to what headlamp housing I could retrofit and make work on my SHO. I'm looking for a headlight and corner light to all one piece (like the impala) and preferably new enough that the housing was made for HID. I will be looking into audis, acuras, nissans, you name it. Target price ~$500 for housings, wiring, etc... I know it may seem a little low, but I want to try and stay close to this vacinity.
Lastly, does anybody know of the website of Herman's? lighting forum? Please offer any insight you may have... and also do not say it cannot be done because I've had this car in the bodyshop for 2 years making it exactly what I want and will not be told NO this late in the game :D

Any thoughts on using 98 GMC envoy headlights? Would get a set locally before purchasing, but I'm looking at a couple of SUVs because of the flat front and little angle they have like the oem SHO units. Humm... decisions decisions. :help:

What about the new Acura CL lights? They are HID, but they are some of the worst factory HID lights on the market as far a beam pattern. I only recommend them because they seem to be the same general size and shape as the Impala lights. The new GTP are also similarly styled and the Acura RL lights are flat also.
Hermans FAQ, http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/
You might also look into Lexus 98-02 LS400, they have very flat light that is also factory HID, ES300 might also work but I think its too angled and too long. If I can think of anymore, I'll post them. I never cared for the look of the Impala lights, but its cool that you wanted to do the body mods. I'm just not big into headlight swaps.

OK, talked to a fellow member who has done the upgrade and I really am thinking of keeping the impala units and adding HID to them. That way I can fabricate an adjustment mechanism that will aleviate the criss cross issue and allow me to upgrade to the sweet look of HID. Any suggestions as to what Projector to search for the fab into the low beam side of the impala housings?

Sounds like you have a solution, but the current Infinti Q45 has some cool looking headlights.

What size are the stock Impalla low beams? Hella has a very good projector that is 90mm, it comes in halogen and HID(complete with bulbs and ballasts, but its expensive) I have a set of 3 series projectors that I am in the process of inserting into my stock lights. The projector lens itself is fairly small, but if you can get the "Xenon trim ring" with it too, it will make the projector look much bigger and fill up an opening better. The other projector that everyone seems to like the the A6 projector. It isn't too big, but its not too small either. To find the right projector to use you'll need to figure out if you want to buy a brand new one, or retro fit one from another car. Then figure out your opening size and mounting depth and go from there. Hermans site has a lot of info and the people on the forum have a lot of experience and should be able to help you with figuring out which projector will fit in your openings. Good luck!

Yellowsho, the Infinity Gatling guns are very nice, but they are huge and very expensive! I think the projectors alone go for over $500 on ebay and you'd still need bulbs and ballasts.

The Saturn VUE has headlights that look close to ours. Try those!

Acura Integra's don't have HID, But I think that style of headlights would be real cool on your car.

Personally I'd still stick with those impala headlights. They should be fairly easy to retro a projector into. I emailed you back also adam.

Well i have HID on my car. All i had to do was get some big 'O' rings so they wouldnt move. Ill get some pictures of the install ... very straight forward.

Since i dont have projection lenses it just light up everything. Almost like runing with high beams all the time.

I don't think these would fit a gen1 but I wonder if the EVO 8 headlights have the proper angle to fit a gen2. Some cutting of the hood and fenders would be necessary but it may be about right...does anyone know? I've thought about this before for my 93

sorry adam, I know that doesn't help you much :)

If it hasn't been mentioned before, the Lexus LS may be close on a gen1..Plus those came with HID's (some of them).
