Creaking noise under manual shifter

Morning all...have noticed lately during stop and go driving am developing a creaking noise from under the manual shifter..sounds like it's need of some grease...any thoughts on what might need a **** or a bushing wearing out....???

Sounds like the steel rails that the little plastic bushings ride on for the shifter box to compensate for engine movement is probably all rusted.

I find it's easiest just to remove the shifter all together, sand or grind down all the rust, paint it with some hard enamel, **** it up with some grease and re-install.
