Anybody have a good way to hold the crank pulley so the bolt can be retorqed after doing the 60K.
Like he said, put it in gear (assuming you have an mtx, atx wont do it), have someone step on the brakes, and then torque it. Good Luck!

Sorry guys I did what I sorta grumble at people for is didn't put that it is an ATX. I know how to do it and was trying it with the C clamp but my C clamp just wasn't beefy enough.

I had another problem as well when I went to put my auto tensenor pully back on the tensioner it wouldn't fit either. I was so frustrated at the thing. I even tried to tap and whak it on with at dead blow hammer. I eventualy just drove it on with the bolt and a ratchet.

We used a very large C-clamp wedged aginst the frame on my ATX... be careful that you don't clamp the rubber dampener in the middle and only clamp the steel ring around the edge so you don't damage anything.

I installed one of the long bolts from my crank puller, let it brace against the lower edge of the fenderwell opening as the engine rotated slightly, and torqued away.

Thanks guys I went and bought a bigger beefier clamp and worked like a charm. SHO's all back together and runs great.

Naval-avi8tor,
I'm about to do my 100K and have some questions.

1)Was this the first time replacing the belt? I recall you had over 140,000 miles not too long ago. If so, what kind of shape was the belt in?

2)Did you use the starter method to remove the crankshaft bolt? Any problems if you did use this method?

3) Was this harder/easier than the top half of the 60K.

Anything I should know before I do mine.

The belt seemed to be in good shape. Myself and srfdude speculated that it appered that some one had been in there before so its possible that it could have been replaced. I've owned the car since 40,130 miles on the ODmeter. I currently have 143K and some change.

Yes I used the starter methoed and it took several trys as my breaker bar for 1/2 drive was to long. 16-18" breaker bar is sufficant.

Well there is less to do but it takes about the same amount of time. You have to work in a more confined area. I personnaly can't say that either were difficult. As you can see above there were a couple of head scratchin moments. I still haven't ficured out why my tensioner pully that came off so easy was so difficult to go back on. My suggestion if you have an ATX is just leave the pully on and remove the tensioner with the pully attached since they both have to come off.

All in all I know that there was definatly not as much work there as what ford and many other shops want to charge for.
