I suspect the problem with impacts not working for some folks is that most folks don't buy very good impact wrenches. There are so many on the market and most aren't even close to the strongest in their class. 200 ft-lb craftsman anybody? It's not often that I see an impact gun in somebody's aresenal of tools but when I do it's usually a POS.

Just my $.02. I haven't found a bolt my 1000 ft-lb nitrocat didn't like. Best $110 I ever spent (got a deal). Quiet too. Higher cost doesn't necessarily mean better with air tools.

Starter bump with a good, charged battery and a good 6-pt impact socket is probably going to beat most folks' impact guns. Built in SHO impact, lol. Just do as has been said and position the ratchet so it can build momentum. Repeat as necessary. And don't forget to clean up the bolt if rusty or mucky before reusing and coat it with anti-seize to make things easier next time.

The flywheel is not on but i can put it back on.

You should be able to rig up a pawl or stop on either the flywheel or the (rear of) crank. Once you have the crank locked into one position, a breaker bar or impact will make it easy.

The factory service manual shows a specific Rotunda tool, a pawl that mounts in a starter mounting hole, locking the flywheel in position to remove the crank bolt. It then reverses for later tightening/torquing.

I have a spare engine someone gave me and its on a stand. Im trying to figure out how to get the crank pully bolt off now! Any ideas?

Find something to hold the flywheel as someone suggested or put a bolt in one of the cylinders and rotate it to TDC slowy until it stops turning. Then use a very long pipe as a cheater bar on a 1/2" wrench. I did something similar (the pipe) and it worked when nothing else did.

When the engine is in the car, the starter method has worked for me every time.
