How much does it cost to have an SHO painted? Specifacally just one side. I had an encounter with a deer and ditched my car and there are some scratchs on the left side of the car that go all the way down. I'd just need that side painted and I'm going to get a new spoiler so the trunk as well will need to be painted. Don't worry it won't be a ricer spoiler that sticks 4 feet off the trunk, but the stock one just doesn't do it for me.

Around $500.00 I would say. Have them use epoxy primer, which might add $50.00 to the price. Regular primer is weak and tends to "powder" when hit by, say, shopping carts, causing the paint film to either chip or weaken and allow rust.

Depends. If they don't go through the clearcoat, you don't need a repaint, just a good buffing along with a few layers of clear coat.

A good shop will blend the panels, so you'd end up painting at least part of every panel except the driver doors, roof, and driver front fender. I would say $800 for a good job.

$199.95! :D You get what you pay for though.

I'm still debating whether to do a cheap as dirt paint job (anything would be better than my stock paint. I know some have said not true, but they haven't seen my paint. Everybody who has agrees with me :D ) or to go whole hog and spend thousands on a paint job worth several times more than the car itself.

I dont mean to hi-jack anyones thread. wink But what does a good detailing cost? I have some LITTLE spots of rust that have been covered up but the paint isn't matched the best and some little chips..what would it cost for a good detailing of the outside?

I've got a local guy that does one **** of a job for a pretty reasonable price. He's done 3 SHOs, 2 of which are mine. Let me know if you're interested and I can hook you up with him to get an estimate.

That would be awseome. But it won't be for a month or so prolly. Getting tranny this week. Prolly have it rebuilt next week and order a Quafie diff. also maybe this week or next. So I'll be short money for a short period of time.

Anywayz, ACV1081 thanks once again, also thanks to the rest of you for your opinions.

Go get a paint gun and do it yourself. I have done 4 cars now, the first one was so bad I had to do it over again, by the third one they started looking good. I just did a door for a friends 190E and you can't tell which one I painted.

Heh, maybe I should try that. I can get a 6.6CFM at 90psi air compressor for $99 new. Sounds like the best bet would be for me to start out wish some cheap as dirt "Earl Scheib" quality paint on the SHO, then a mid quality paint on the oxidized Corolla all-trac wagon, then touch up a few bad spots on the 914 and then maybe if I'm lucky I will have honed my skills enough to go back to the SHO, strip it, and lay down a quality paint without f'in up. Does that sound like a plan or do you think I should just leave it to the pros if I plan on going with a quality paint on the SHO?

Rick...I'd consider trying it! I know a guy who thought the quote to re-paint his sportbike after he dropped it was waaayyy overpriced so he bought all the equipment to do it himself. After several attempts he got it to look very good. He's since painted an older car and did a good job.

'94 ATX...w/ a repainted front bumper and hood to the tune of $500! Looks like a brand new front end.

Go for it man! Look on ebay for quality guns and try it yorself. Try and get an old hood or somthing like that to get that hang of it and figure out how to set up the gun.

As far as the rust goes, it always worse than it looks and to correctly fix it you will have to cut the metal out and replace it (depending on the severity) so it might not be cheap. Alot of body shops will not do rust work because they dont want to warranty it.

There are other ways to do it also, such as sandpaper and bondo or fiberglass.
