I just cant get my mind around this one. Well two. I keep swapping in thermostats but they keep going bad. I have had two stick on me and the third is about to so i just bought one tonight to put in. Why do they keep going so quickly? Second is i have a huge plume of coolent smoke everytime i am driving and shut the car off. its like the radiator cap is lose but its not, maybe a whole in one of the hoses? Anything would be helpful here!

Do you know of a better description of where your coolant leak is coming from? If you are seeing white smoke and if its coolant, then it is hitting something on the block or exhaust. Get under the car, or see if its puddling anywhere

Well i think when i put in my 3.2 my gasket set was a little off, i had a leak there at one time, a major one but it stopped after some stop leak. So i just got to thinking that could be the problem.

Sorry for the 2 posts. But i replaced the rad. cap with a 4 pound? unit. Could that be the problem even though i dont see anything comming from it.

Its possible your not filling the coolant system, an air pocket in the head. Dissconnect the small hose at the throttle body then fill it up til' it comes out the top and its full. Fill it slowly. This gives the air in the coolant system a place to purge. I hope head gaskets were'nt part of you're conversion. You need a 16lb cap. Thats what you should have on there. Old coolant hoses can colapse and cause problems. I replaced every hose on one sho motor, it blew one after another, 16yr old hoses just are'nt road worthy. I got them all at napa for about $80 including htr core, oil cooler, lwr upper rad, throttlebody, themorst housing, all of them. By the way is the radiator fan working?

So you think that since i replaced the cap with a weaker one that would cause a leak in the system even tough its not leaking from the cap?

Went to do a little more investigating. And when the car gets warm it starts to blow threw the vents w/ the heater on. So i am thinking something to do with the heater core? Could that be correct.

first get a 16 psi cap for your raidator. Then hook up a pump to your radiaor and pump it to about 20-25 psi and see if you can see the fluid leaking anywhere. It helps to have one person pumping and one person looking. If you get fog from the vents more than likely it the heater core. Good luck with that one.

Did you replace the cap with the before mentioned 16lb cap? The car requires a stronger radiator cap, thats why it is leaking out the overflow, its that simple.

what cap did you have on it before????????

TA DAAA!!!

the sho system pressure is higher than 4lbs or whatever you had in there.... soooo.. the once the coolant pressure got above 4lbs. it dumped into the coolant resivoir (sp?) and it was constantly being dumped into it...... so it overfilled and dumped....

Sounds like a bad head gasket or more likely erosion of the head around the coolant passages.
