Hello,
I have installed a manual gauge for Temp on my 1993 ATX. The temp stays at 195~200 at an idle with the A/C on....

Now for the problem...
On the interstate, the temp climbs up to 225 and then the fans come on and lower the temp. I feel that the fans should not have to come on at interstate speeds. At 60~70 mph, I should have enough air to cool the engine??? Right???
I have changed the Radiator, Hoses, Water Pump, Theromostat(FORD), sensors and Redline water wetter. Is there an air flow problem?? Am I missing some thing on the front of the vehicle or under the vehicle that is supposed to divert air into the radiator?

Or is this normal operation?
The engine has 105k miles and runs great. No smoke out of the pipes and the engine does not leak or burn oil. The radiator fluid stays full.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Tracy

Tracy,
Sounds like everything is in order from what you have wrote. What part of TX are you at? Maybe a member near you can be of assistance..

Jeremy,
I up here in Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area.

Just noticed that the temps are climbing since we are having some hot days ahead of us. I do not want to get stranded if the FANS stop working for any reason. Should be able to drive at highway speeds without the use of the fans.

There were a few reports last summer of similar symptoms.

IIRC, the solution revolved around a missing air dam on the bottom of the radiator mount. Maybe someone will pipe up about that.

Well there is QUITE a bit of sho knowledge in the DFW area. I suggest you log onto our Tx board at topica.com, and search for LSSHOC. You will get more local traffic and probably someone that can take a look at the problem in person there...good luck. BTW, we are having the statewide get together in a couple weekends in Austin. You are more than welcome to join in on the caravan from DFW.
