Need wiring help. Went to flush my cooling system this week end, while doing so replacing t stat, ECT, sending unit, and cap. I found more damage by repair shop. The sending unit plug was missing and they just crimped a pin on the end of the wire and put the pin in the plug on the unit. My question si this, the unit has a plug designed for two wires, but only uses one. Which side of the plug does this single wire go to? The wire color is red/wht which goes directly to the temp gauge on the dash. Does it matter which side of the plug it goes? I know it grounds to the block, so a ground is not neccesasary, but just wondering if it matters which side of the connecter the single wire should go to? All other single wire systems I have seen before, only had a single wire plug to it. I cannot find any on;ine pics of the plug, just a bunch of sending units!

Thanks!

Gauge worked before, so I'm just putting it back on the same side I found it. Was on the right hand side, if clip is on the top!

You've been having a shit load of problems with this shop... how come you haven't gotten them to fix any of it?

I let it go, man. Life's too short to be ****** off. They are far away and deny that they did anything wrong. If I am capable of fixing it, I might as well. That way I know it gets done right. I call it stupid tax. I knew better than to send it there, and some may say that is no excuse, but it's all good. Lesson learned.

And it is confirmed that the right side pin is correct. The left pin sends the temp gauge pegged out in over heating mode, probably the equivalent to 350 F!!!

The gauge sender only uses one pin and is electrically the same as the old style. The '96s used the old style single wire connector and sender.

Correct. I was just noting that even though the sender is a 2 pin design, the signal comes from the right pin, not the left. So, if the harness was there, it would only have one wire going to it (red/wht) and it would be in the right position, not the left. I really need to get some pics up.
