Houston,... we have a problem....

I went online Friday afternoon to place reservations for the Convention. Needless to say, I was somewhat shocked at the most recent reviews of the hotel. Of the six reviews over the past 12 months, five were rated 1-3 (“5” being highest) - four mentioned problems with the staff and three problems with “bugs” in the rooms and dining area.

I called Holiday Inn’s 800 number, and their response was “…. We were unaware….”. What concerns me the most is that they removed all links to the reviews. When I called back yesterday to inquire about the reviews, I was told “…. they’re upgrading the website….” And as of this morning, the reviews are STILL missing.

Sorry, but bugs crawling on me is something that doesn’t bother me, but eating bugs is something I thought I left behind at survival school....

The newer Holiday Inn Express hotels are great, and I have not been happy with the older Holidomes. FWIW, I was a Platinum Priority member for the last three years, and am "only" a Gold member this year.

Convention hotel doesn't matter to me, as it's only a spot to put my stuff, shower, and get (if I'm lucky) 4-5 hours of sleep a night (usually more like 3-4). We spend very little time in the rooms.

FYI, Hawthorne Suites is very close and is the same price. You have to pay the balance up front, but that was on Orbitz.com. Other sites may not need prepayment.

Sorry Kris,
I found the reviews a second time, then this morning when I tried to pull them up again to manually post the various reviews, could no longer access them. I have also only been able to get into the reviews recently, when logged into their Priorty Club.

I see nothing.

IF ANYONE IS ABLE TO GET INTO THE REVIEWS, PLEASE MANUALLY POST (cut-and-paste) ANY REVIEWS YOU FEEL ARE PERTINENT !

I cover the renovations in the letter that went out to everyone that is registered so far.

We were told of the renovations upon first visit. They were supposed to be done by July, but they ran into more in the pool roof than they expected.

So, the pool and restaurant will be closed, but they are offering free breakfasts in the banquet rooms during our stay.

They also have made arrangements with several health clubs and pools in the immediate area that we can use for free, they will have two vans for transportation back and forth if you want.

Only a few rooms are being taken out of service at a time, and more than enough are completed right now to handle our group.

At this time we are the only big group in the hotel for the event.

As to other rumors, I saw nothing at all to be concerned about when we visited last fall. You can tell a dirty hotel, and this one was clean and neat and in good repair. They are spending something like $5 million on renovations. They are owned by the same people that own the ultra nice downtown Radisson, and staying there was not an option, no place to hold late night parking lot gatherings and much higher room rate.

I encourage everyone to keep their reservations, this should have little effect on us since we eat somewhere else every night, and the banquet will be catered, that is done all the time.

see you in K-zoo!

yeah I don't think the parking garage in Downtown Kalamazoo would be a good idea :laugh_ti:
