And I took over 150 pics, lol!

The guide should be coming together soon... I have my work cut out for me the the next week wink

Anyways everything went pretty well, except for breaking one of the cam cover bolts on each side. I broke the ones on the far right side, those little ones. One on each side were totally seized. The gaskep seem to have sealed well without them though.

All of the clearances were in spec and all of the shims were in great shape. It seems to me now that the car may in fact have gotten an upper 60k a while back... but no RTV on the plug well seals...

I do have a bit of smoke coming off the rear exhaust manifold, I know I got the gasket on right because I triple-checked it, but maybe it's leftover from all the cleaner etc? At any rate I'll be checking it out first chance I get.

That rear cover is a pain in the neck!!!

It runs SO much better now though! WOW. So that guide will be up pretty soon and I'll be looking for your tips to add.

I will probably be taking the manifold off again pretty soon to do a guide to cleaning it (I didn't have time to do it, and it and the intake ports were really dirty.) Plus I will do it to replace a few of the pics that didn't come out...

Anyways, any ideas about my SHO or the website, let me know! burnout

cool, well when I do my 60K I plan on making a donation to support the site. Very Nice!

BTW On the site it mentions an ATX 60K guide is coming soon? is that in the near future or months or whenever you get a chance to work on one or what?

thanks

Shaun (EHBOY) and I are going to be doing his 60k, I would expect that to be in the next month or two...

Depends though, he lost the tranny in his Gen III :(

There's a lot more that will be coming too, the next 6 months or so are going to be super busy, stuff should be going up all the time.

After that, who knows? Muahahahaha....

JD-

Many thanks for the project- I just looked at the lower 60K over the last few days, and will be donating soon!

Thanks for taking so many pics- the visual info is what allows a lot of us who are unsure about tearing into such a tolerance-specific engine the confidence to do so...

The job total took me nearly 11 hours... mostly taking pics and notes... and struggling with the rear cam cover!

I was wondering who that was :) By the way, just to keep things very open with everyone, besides Shaun, (who donates each month... speaking of which, *ahem* new month *cough cough*) only Rock has donated. So as time goes by and the website gets bigger and more bandwidth is being used... please keep it in mind... thumb

I thought you pulled off your intake and cam cover to check it out? Decided not to?

At any rate, get it done and get your butt up here wink We need to get some more stuff on that site pronto! I real excited about it. So yeah, three weeks, what day are we planning? Wednesday, right? Or is it Tuesday?

Okay, update time.

Well I have determined that the rear valve cover gasket did not go on correctly as I am losing oil out the back of it. I cannot see where it is leaking but a lot of smoke is coming off the cat. So hopefully tomorrow I will be pulling it apart and checking it out.

I went on my PC today to upload all those pics to the website and work on it while it was quiet at work, but my system kept freezing up! headbang So it looks like it won't be up for another day at least. rant

Hmmm... just had a thought... I did manage to get a few pics up... anybody want a sample? :D

Oh I'm so mad right now. I know my camera was not working well but I didn't know it was that bad! DOH!!!

Well here are a few that DID come out:

:D lock

(that's me right now)

Well, I got at it again this evening, wow does that intake come off fast the second time, eh? I must have had it off in 20 mins! At any rate, I took the rear valve cover off, and the gasket looked fine! I seriously could not figure out what I had done wrong. I looked and looked and could not find the source of the oil leak. Finally I decided that the only way to find out would be to put it all back together and run the engine while I watched to see where it was leaking from, right?

So I get it all together, start it up, and... nothing. No leaks at all. So I go and take it for a spin, right? I'm just starting to get excited when I come to a stop, and headbang ! Oil smoke again! rant

Then.... wait a sec... "maybe it's just the left over oil that's still dripping on the hot cat", I think to myself. So I check it out, sure enough, no more leaking at all, the rest of the oil has burnt off and it seems to be all set!

On another positive note, I seems to have found a way to make my camera work, so next week I will take my intake off and do a NEW set of pics for the upper 60k guide.

So yeah, good SHO day today :)

Your gonna wear out those upper intake bolts if you keep up like this... :D

Really is too bad about those pics not coming out though. I guess you'll have to chalk that up to experience, as well. shrug
You sure that camera of yours is good to go now? pcorn

Well, it is my own fault, I broke it while working on my SHO one day... it worked for a while and then quit on me... but I might be able to get it to work, I will try this Thursday. If not, Shaun is coming up in three weeks and we'll do his, using his camera...

hmmm... anybody have a used digital camera they want to sell?
