Hello to all

Been awhile since I've posted, life happening. Had an extremely scary occurrence yesterday while driving to church. Approaching a 45 mph zone from a 70, I started to apply light braking pressure to the pedal and it was HARD AS A ROCK! Didn't feel like it wanted to move at all and NO brake action unless I put all my weight on the pedal! I could hear what I think was anti skid actuator buzzing. I was able to get the car stopped but only with careful application of force to pedal. It seemed like it wanted to lock everything up or no brake force at all.... No in between and no modulation at all. The red BRAKES idiot annunciation came on as well. Getting ready to pull codes with Forescan, but wanted others thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Glad you are safe! Brake booster failure seems to be the issue here. Occasionally master cylinder failure leads to brake booster failure. So both should be checked. Maybe a hose popped off or failed, that would be the easy solution.

Have not seen an ABS unit failure to date on the Gen 4/5 SHO, except in cases where a crash/accident leads to it.

You are absolutely correct (as usual) my friend. Pulled codes and noted air leak in throttle body. The clip holding the vacuum hose to the throttle body has broken, allowing the hose to pop off. No vacuum to booster, no brakes! Reconnected hose and secured with zip tie until I can go by dealer and get new elbow/ clip. All better. As soon as I get some time I'll share my adventure with pack rats eating engine wiring and deer hit!

Thanks as always buddy!

Speaking of losing power assist features and rats eating wires: something chewed through my son's EPAS harness on a nearly new 2016 Civic. If you think the brakes are bad after losing assist, try steering with no EPAS functionality! Even if moving, it is nearly impossible on such a light car!

I know that these wires use a "soy based" outer coating, but I also think that the belly pans encourages things to climb on up and have a field day! No pun intended.

 Hoses & clamps ... ugh ... how difficult can it be to get right!

Yeah, the engine cover, the bellypan, all great nesting/roosting spots. Can't do much about the bellypan, but at least the appearance cover can be put away.
