Hi there. I'm new to the group, just got a 2010 SHO. I see that there are 2 tuners that most people go with. Being that they are a little pricey, I'm wondering if someone in the Denver/ Colorado Springs area has a tuner set up for CAI, 170 t-stat, and 3 bar MAP, that I can use for free or a reasonable price. TIA.

plus, the tunes are locked to the VIN when loaded, so you would not be able to load someone else's tune unless they first took it off their car.

There are used tuners available for both primary EB tuning vendors.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

I have a couple questions, regarding tuners. What is the difference between the different sct tuners? There's a difference of a couple hundred dollars between the different models. I'm, honestly, on the fence between LMS and Unleashed. Both obviously know what they're doing. Does Unleashed charge extra for tuning updates, when new parts are added? Any guidance would be appreciated

Neither company charges extra for any revisions you may desire.

This includes even if you add new parts as your mod list expands.

Tell either one of 'em what you've added, and they'll modify your tune accordingly.

I disagree. I contacted Unleashed about revisions to the tune I have and was told it's $150. I bought my SHO from a guy who purchased the SCT X4 with two tunes. Maybe the $150 is because I'm not the original owner, but not sure why that makes a difference.

That's what I was wondering. I saw a thread where LMS says they never charge for updates

If you buy a tuner used, I believe both charge an initial transfer fee, so the device can be made compatible with your car's specific ECM, but after that, no additional charges to my knowledge.

Where does it say the rights to tunes/mods are transferable? Had you bought the tunes from Unleashed, the right to mods would have come with it.

SHOdedd...I see your point, but as bpd1151 mentions, there was no need to do any transfers or updates for a different car. Same car, same tunes, just a new car owner. What is the cost covering?

I know I'll get a different answer, from everyone, but any pros and cons between the two?

Yes, everyone charges you if you buy a device used....but if you buy new, it's unlimited updates.

I would say intellectual property differences. It is not the same as in the computer world, where you buy somebody's computer with software on it and the software license allows you to continue to use the software. We are so used to getting the continuing updates for free, that we don't stop to think that the software we do receive is the same software everyone else receives, at its' core. In the case of the tuning company, they are writing custom software for the original owner, and their obligation is only to the original owner. If you wish to take advantage of the tuning company's services, you need to get your own contract with them, and hence you have the "transfer fee". Only fair.

They are both excellent. With unleashed you aren't forced into buying certain items for tunes. Such as I don't have to have catback exhaust to run methanol. Where as with LMS they would require it. That's why I went with unleashed but once again both are fantastic

does either one have tunes that will pass emissions? the last dialog I had with LMS was that they never turn on the "readiness" indicator, which means automatic fail at the emissions stations here in CO. I don't know about Unleashed, or if that is still the case with LMS, but it is important if your car has to pass emissions.
