Hey whats up everyone i am a new sho owner bought my sho with my student loan back in feburary paid 1800 for it...great deal i think considering it is worth more. i am a die hard ford fan. i know alot about the new sho and have known a little about the previous models....I love my sho...it runs great has amazing throtle response....it has a few minor problems though. i knew it had an oil leak when i bought it.it is worse than i thought it was though...it is the valve cover gasket according to what the dealer that sold it to me said...tld me atleast 350 to fix it. took at to a trans place they were doing a free check it pulled codes 116,538 and 632. 632 is the trans control switch. i knew it would pull something related to the trans was hoping on the fourth gear servo clip though. now i might have to chase a short. no overdrive killer on the gas. anyways could someone give me some info one the other two codes especailly the 538 it has something to do with cyl. bal. test fail.
anyways i need some anwsers. so i can get it fixed in a couple weeks looking for prices....please any info would help........sorry about the book...lol

Try searching for your answers to the Codes. Not trying to be rude but as far as your code 538 it took me less than a minute to find that it is most likely you executing the Cylinder balance test incorrectly - aka the goose test. You have to do a series of steps in a certain order including reving it to 4k and turning the steering wheel to do the step correctly. Congrats on the SHO and you'll find pretty much ANYTHING you need to know here. I know I have.

also - Did you cycle the OD switch when you were supposed to? That my have caused your code 632. Does your overdrive work? When you are driving and you use the OD switch, if it does not light on the cluster, or engage, a common problem is that under shift **** one of the wires leading up to the switch has broken. Easy fix there - just pull out the retaining clip on the back of the handle and work the handle off of the rod, then inspect wires to make sure they are connected.

ok thanks for that.....I didnt do the tests. i had a place callede aamco do it. it was free so what the heck right....and no my overdrive doesnt work....i was reading somewhere that to take the shifter handle apart could be a bit tricky if the switch or something fell apart. i did read that it was very common for that wire to break...is there a way to take that console out what are the tools syou need for that i have one for the one under the ash tray but not the one under the cup holder can i fix it that way? which would be easier?

I hear you on AAMCO doing your tests. Problem is in my opinion trans guys are trans guys. Leave the rest of the car to a good mechanic. Plus AAMCO is like the MAACO of the trans shops. There is an excellent writeup by Phoenix on how to do your KOER and KOEO tests. It is step by step and even shows you how to do the test without a scan tool - jumping pins at the test harness. That way is free and you don't have do deal with AAMCO who has a financial interest in telling you that things are wrong with your car.

thanks...im getting ford to fix my oil leak in the next couple weeks it smokes bad when run at higer rpms. only starts smoking when the car stops or slows down....problem is i know the valve cover gasket leaks but what about the other gaskets. ;ike say the rubber bushings under the valve cover bolts thats where i notice quite a bit of fresh oil plus its getting onto my spark plugs..could affect effeincy and performance..i dont know if the person that had it before me did the 60k maintence on it wouldnt it be a good idea to have that done what do they normaly run for the dealer to do it.
