Well I finally got the codes and did it right this time, I think.

91, 02 Senser

61 Coolant temp

41 EGO lean or not switching

14 PIP circuit failure.

So I need my O2 sensors replaced at least right?

Along with my ECT sensor, and whats the PIP one for? Ideas?

IIRC the O2 sensor code do not nesasarily mean that you need to replace them; something else maybe causing your car to run lean. An old/bad ECT can do that i think.

How does a coolant sensor cause that? Also thank you HopefulSHO, I never would have guessed.

Could it also be why my car has been running so bad and then makes itself die if I don't hold the revs up?

For the CKP, PIP, or CPS (crankshaft position sensor) search under my signature for the DIS (distributorless ignition system) tests. It includes the test for the CPS and other sensors.

Your oxygen sensor has stopped switching, from rich to lean and back to rich etc. The question is are the O2 sensors bad, have a bad connection, or are you in fact running lean? If you ave no vacuum leaks then the sensor is suspect.

The coolant temp. sensor has failed or its circuit is grounded.

If the sensors are old disconnect them and then reconnect them after you check the connections for corrosion. Clear the codes and try pulling the codes again after the vehicle has been run at full operating temperature. If the codes come back then suspect the sensors. Do the DIS tests recommended above and see if the CPS fails the tests. If it does then it will need to be replaced.

ON the coolant sensor, recall that you get this code if you run these tests with the car cold instead of HOT..
One of the assumptions on that test is that the car has been 'warmed up' and the coolant temperature is >120 or something like that... I forget the exact number and am too lazy to go look...
