Buggy1 I have a buggy that has an 89 SHO 3.o swapped into it and I am trying to clear the trouble codes one by one. The first code I would like to fix is the Purge Canister Valve Code 85. I know that one of the two wires in the connector is + positive and the other is the - ground signal from the ECM.
My question is what would I need to put between these two wires, short of the actual solenoid, that would trick the ECM into thinking that the valve is present?
I am thinking of possibly patching in a 1k resistor and an LED. Would this be enough draw to clear the ECM? if not, any other suggestions?
Thank in advance for any help here!

Do you have the original valve? Put it back in but don't plumb it in. It is just a coil that opens a valve that lets gas fumes be sucked into the intake on a regular basis. The computer doesn't know if anything is going through that valve. Simple.

I would not worry a second about that code. It does not light the cel, and it has no effect on how the pcm runs the engine. I had a red 94 that had that code forever because of the pcm issue that some had, and it was perfectly fine.

Start with the small numbers and work up, then you get the most important ones first.

i do not have the original valve. i was hoping to dummy it out vs having to buy one. are the valves specific to sho or can i grab one off any similar year Taurus in a junk yard?

Good info rubydist - i also have a 15 19 and 56. the 56 is MAf and i have replaced it but the code still shows up twice when i run thru the codes.

Pin 31 on the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) connects uninterupted to the Canister Purge Solenoid with wire 101 (GY/Y).
The other side of the solenoid, wire 361 (R) is in a cluster of wires that connects to Pin 24 of the Integrated Control Module (ICM) (CCRM).

I would guess you could put any solenoid in there from a similar wiring harness, like an idle speed control solenoid, or maybe even an old fuel injector, as that 361 wire is connected to the fuel injection system.
