my 1997 sho has code 500 vss sensor, this car does not have traditional screw in sensor like regular Taurus, that would be to easy. I was told vss is calculated through abs module, is this what I need?

Wow.

Haven't discussed this one in years.

Yes. The ABS module controls the speed signal for the V8 SHO's. There is no VSS. Only a blocking plate on the tranny where one would go into the lesser model AX4N.

When an ABS module dies, usually the ABS light comes on. Do you have an ABS light? Does the speedo still function normally?

Like I said, it has been years since I recall a P0500 discussion, but I think the ultimate solution was a new computer.

no speedometer and irratic shifts like when a vss sensor goes on a regular Taurus which was a cheap fix. i found a new oem discontinued module in el paso texas for a 1997 sho. very pricey but you don't know what your getting if u buy at salvage yard

I was just wondering if it is a sensor issue or the module. I'd hate to spend a ton of money if it was just a wheel sensor.

the code I have is 500 bad vss sensor, that is incorporated in the abs module. car does not have conventional vss sensor like a regular Taurus. ford dealer has no clue about these cars.

I installed abs sensors all the way around, its never the cheap fix with these cars, rear plugs are 4 hours labor removing that manifold with 33 bolts just to get a ratchet on the plugs.
