Does anyone have any idea what a code of 126 means? It says MAP or BP sensor higher or lower than expected. What would make this code appear. My check engine light is on all the time when i'm driving and its starting to bug me. I just put in a pro-flow 75mm MAF (yes it was tuned for my car) so how could that affect it?

the SHO doesn't use a MAP sensor, it uses the BP sensor. It is the little black box in the center of the firewall.

Chiltons says our vehicles have MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. quote from the book, page 4-17, "The MAP sensor measures manifold vacuum using a frequency. This gives the computer control module information on engine load. It is used as a barometric sensor for altitude compensation, updating the control module during key ON, engine OFF and every wide-open throttle. The ECU uses the MAP sensor for spark advance, EGR flow and air/fuel ratio."

testing can be done as follows:
1. Disconnect the vacuum supply hose from the MAP sensor.
2. Connect a suitable vacuum pump to the MAP sensor and apply 18 in. Hg (61kPa) of vacuum.
3. If the MAP sensor does not hold vacuum, it must be replaced.

also, BP stands for Barometric Pressure. Ford actually calls its a BAP sensor. in my 91 EVTM manual, it states the MAP as a BAP. either name specifies the same reasoning.

hope this helps

Dale,
I don't care what Chilton's says, the SHO doesn't use a MAP it uses a BP sensor. They are essentially the same-- except the BP doesn't have a hose to the manifold and is used to register barometric pressure. Look at the unit on your car and you will notice an odd coupling spot where you think a hose should go. That's the BP. There is no vacuum supply hose.

The Chilton's quote does not apply to the SHO.

The BARO/BAP/MAP sensor is an off the shelf sensor that Ford used on the SHO to compensate for barometric pressure, primarily as it relates to altitude.

The vacuum test is to see if there is a ruptured sensor element internal to the sensor assembly.

The proper way to test the sensor is to measure the FREQUENCY output of the sensor at varying barometric pressures AFTER performing the gross failure test already described.

I suggest you clear the codes and see if it comes back. The pro-flo/ pro-m units are known to throw CE lights from time to time but it shouldn't give a BAP code. If the BAP code returns you may indeed have a faulty sensor.

does anyone have a part number for this sensor? Better question...is it still availible? Ive reset the computor 4 times now and it still appears every and all the time i drive it. What does this sensor effect, what bad things will happen (gas mileage, knock, driveability...)

Thanks guys, i would have never guessed these things.
