Well for starters, I needed a new clutch about a month ago now, it was hard to get into gears and it sounded like a pp finger was busted and rattling inside of the tranny when i drove it. I have just been to busy to get around to it. So finally I decided to do it tonight.

The first thing that I noticed when i removed the motor/ tranny together was this, which was no big deal because I had planned on reinforcing the mounts while i had the motor out.

Everything went good up until i separated my motor/tranny
Then i found out what it actually was that was causing my hard shifts and rattling noises which was a broke pp strap, two small cracks on the back of the pp and bent pp fingers. SHO clutch with a broke strap? No Way!!!!

Pics of the broken straps inside and the little scuffs that it had made which could be alot worse as in a strap flying through the side of the case

I then started comparing the clutch sets side by side

then i compare the clutch discs, man was that disc worn!!!!!

then i notice that the tob looks a little different shape and size and it gets me wondering

So thats when i try to put on the new tob onto my shaft

what the fu** is up with that? ^
is there a diffent sized quill shaft that requires a differnt sized tob?
does anybody recognize what brand that clutch is?
all it was in was a brown non-manufacturer type box
now i have to let my car sit for about a week until the RIGHT tob comes in.
this sucks, i just filled up my sho before replacing the clutch and it costed me $58!!!!

Yes, you received, in error, a rev. A TOB; the original TOB found on the 89-90 3.25" clutch.

Its happened to me, not uncommon. Just makes sure you specify Rev. B TOB the next time you have to order one. Yeah, its a PITA.

x2, don't use that TOB. Get a Rev B which should come with a quill sleeve. It boggles my mind that you can still get the Rev. A TOB and the small clutches, and especially that the Rev. A TOB gets packaged with the bigger clutch kit.

:bonk:

You just ordered the wrong clutch kit, the only difference being that it included a Rev. A TOB which would have fit on your shaft IF it did not have the quill installed. The quill is an improvement because it is a steel sleeve that fits over the original aluminum shaft, thus providing a more robust material for the TOB to ride upon. All you need to fix the problem is a Rev B TOB. The ceramic TOB from shonutperformance.com is a highly recommended upgrade.

along the same lines. i'm doing the same thing with mine and was wondering what holds that new sleeve in place over the shaft, or does it just happen to stay there when everything is in place?
