So I'm in the middle of a clutch job right now and have just removed the clutch assembly and flywheel. The TZ (Southbend) managed to eat up the PP and flywheel pretty bad in the few months I had it.

So here are the questions:
  • I dont know if you can tell from the pictures, but I think that my insert needs to be replaced... and thoughts?
  • Where can I get an insert put in, or have one put in for me? (I live in CA)
  • How should I go about removing the old TOB quill sleve that I locktited on last time I did this job? (The crappy southbend TOB managed to scar up the sleve and I dont want to ruin my nice new SHOnut ceramic :naughty: )

I can't comment on the flywheel because I've never had one of those, but any time you do a clutch you should have it resurfaced so I'd say that it's pretty safe to say that yours needs to be done. I'm sure there are others in your area that can tell you where to take it to get it done.

As for the sleeve......have fun. :) Best thing to do is try and get a small flat head screwdriver under a lip and get it to lift so you can pry/tap it off. You can take some metal snips and cut a section of it off so you can remove it. Just make sure you wear safety gloves so you don't cut yourself. The edges will be sharp.

That insert really needs to be replaced. Isn't the TZ just a stock Valeo disc or was that the Rally? I can't see how that clutch could have an extended life with the wear being that advanced after just months.

Curiously, Why were you going back in there?

On a side note, contact us if you need the insert. It's a standard size and I'm certain they are on shelf.

The TZ is the kevlar puck clutch, it was supposed to have extended life beyond that of a stock disk....mine didnt. I have surmised that the pp was faulty (a southbend part) and would not release all the way (interestingly enough it wouldn't grip completey either).

I needed to replace the assembly because I couldnt get into gear nor spin the wheels... a real POS in my book.

I went with the fibertuff 9 puck this time along with all the bells and whistles (ceramic TOB, teflon release arm bushings). I expect good results.

Mike, I will be contacting you regaurding the insert (it is the old style fidanza, before upgrade so hopefully you still have some old style inserts laying around.

Thanks for the help!

I had the TZ, Fidanza, and the SHOnut cermaic TOB also on my green 92. Never had a problem with it, anyhow...

Southbend called me and informed me they had sent me the wrong bellhousing right before we installed it. Could be why it managed to eat up the flywheel and PP in your case. Might want to check into that...
