Major project going on here on my '92. New clutch, motor mounts, front and top 60k, front struts all at once. Any suggestions on the best sequence to attack this? I've got the clutch DVD and all the procedures. I'm trying to find where I can save effort on the total job by getting stuff out of the way and doing this all in the best sequence... So far, I've disassembled the front and removed water pump. Temporarily reinstalled old belt (which looks like new after 100k on it) just so engine stays in time. Began disassembly for clutch; disconnecting cables etc. Thinking of removing intake now to get that out of the way. Any suggestions appreciated.

Once the intake is out of the way, the engine support that will be needed will be easier to set up.

Other than that, You might want to button up the subframe and clutch job before buttinging up the front end. This way the engine will be held securely so you can torque the crank bolt et all.

If you hadn't started already I'd suggest that you just drop the entire drivetrain, engine/tranny/subframe, and work on it outside of the car. The whole process goes a lot easier that way since access is greatly simplified.

If you have a lift, drop the entire engine/tranny/subframe. It's much easier to work on the drivetrain outside of the car.:)

Exacly what I thought , specially for your type of work (upper, front, rear, tranny.)

Go for it bud :thumb:

Well so far so good everybody. Front is apart, intake is off. I'm cleaning deposits off of ports in heads. Huge carbon deposits. Really sweated the exhaust manifold studs but front Y pipe is off after using 4 different penetrating oils (PB Blaster, Seafoam, Break Free CLP, and Mouse Milk) over four days and being very careful how much torque I applied. Good thing I'm in no hurry. Other misc. disassembly steps toward trans. removal . Received ebay engine support today, so ready to proceed to the next steps.

Dropping the subframe with everything on it is interesting, but I wonder how high I'd need to lift the body to clear the motor? I think maybe I'll proceed with the motor in the car for now since I have good instructions for that method. Taking intake off sure makes lift attachment easier, and is surprisingly easy.
