When the car takes off I get a clunking noise in both sides of the front suspension but oddly enough not at the same time. The right side might do it on one take off then the left side will do it next time. Steering feels OK but I can definately feel the clunk. Any ideas?

I would raise the hood, apply the parking brake and brakes, and torque the engine against the clutch or torque converter. If the front intake plenum raises by more than 1/2", your front motor mount would need to be replaced. The other possibility is the subframe bushings. Take a look at the four attachment points and check for marks revealing that the subframe has moved. Make sure the four 18mm bolts are torqued to 75 lb-ft. If so, the bushings are probably worn out and need to be replaced. You can use the stock Ford bushings (upper front E9DZ-5400145-B, lower front E6DZ-5400155-A, upper rear F1DZ-5400396-A, lower rear F3DZ-5400155-A) or the solid aluminum from SHO NUT or other SHO vendors.

I was having the same issue but only over swoop bumps and angle driveways. I loosened my engine dampner brackets and tightened the bolts that go to the shock towers and its all gone. thumbs_u Try That!

I agree with Scott. I just had a clutch put in my 90 SHO and the guy only tightened 1 of the 4 subframe bushing bolts; among other things he failed to do right  . If you've had recent work done in that area, definitely check the subframe bolts. One or more could have broken also(recall on rear subframe bolts?). example: I could see my engine move 1-2 inches side-to-side when I turned the wheel all the way back and forth eek! . Good luck with it!

Yes - but if you're going to replace the subframe bushings, most will recommend changing to Gen III upper and lower subframe bushings. The Gen III subframe bushings are of sturdier construction and most generally report better steering response.

Mine did this exact thing on the right side, the strut rod receiver cup had broken free of the subframe and was flopping around inside the bushing (My front motor mount was bad too, but after replacement the problem still existed).

You can't tell it's bad by looking at it, in fact the shop that I took it to said they were fine and it was just the bad motor mount. You just need to zip the front nut off the bushing, take the front bushing out and look, I bet you yours have both come loose.
If so you can weld them in, or get the Moog replacements.

As shown in this thread.

I thought about the strut rod receiver issue, but jdksho didn't make any "I'm having this problem too" reference to the original post (dated 2002).

So if you're not simply trying to verify part numbers, please post back.
