Hey guys just wondering what your opinoins are about some of my problems and what you think they might be, when i bought the car a couple months ago i noticed this clunking when i went over small bumps in the road, i could kinda feel it in the floor the guy i bought it from said is was the sway bar endlinks, also after i bought it i noticed a slight vib when going around 60, i went had it inspected they said it was one of my outer tie rods so i went and replaced the end links and the one tie rod and got 4 wheel alighned, some of the vib is gone and the clunk is still there, the clunk does not always happen i would say only about half the time and its feels like its under my feet but more towards the middle of between driver and passanger, and the vib only really happens when i get on it and get up to about 80-90 and when im cruzing at about 45-55 and put a little presure on the wheel turning it slightly not enought to actually really turn the tires but just a little presure i can feel a little shake through the steering wheel. sorry for the long post but i would just like some opinions or suggestions on what it could be, thanks guys.

Clunk sounds like the sway bar bushings. They're cheap and not too difficult to replace. Could also be the subframe bushings. I've been chasing a clunk that for almost three years.

The vibration sounds like a tire out of balance.

Ok, I just had the some of the same issues with my 99, this is what I came up with. 100% stock suspension = bad struts, strut mounts, and front sway bar links. Replaced the struts and mounts together and most of it went away, today I replaced the front sway bar links and now its pretty much quiet and smooth.

thanks for the help guys, i think i will start by buying those sway bar bushings, and i need new rear tires pretty soon so ill go ahead and have all 4 tires rebalanced, ill have to wait on the struts and mounts when the money permits.

I had the similar issues with my 97 and while I agree that a SHO with over
100k= just go ahead and replace the entire suspension.... I replaced the rear subframe bushings and my "clunk"....at least the one I was looking for at the time...went away!

My car is in the shop getting all new front suspension components. New mounts, ball joints, sway bar links, etc.

My back and front clunked and hopefully this will fix it, at least it will fix the terrible negative camber!

I just ordered new control arm bushings. $100 for four :nut:

It will be interesting to see how the originals ones look after 10 years and +130k.

Just pulled the control arms with knuckle and axles out. Very easy this way. But the front control arm bushings were shot. Can't tell about the rears until they come out. Then there may not be enough of them to make an easy determination of their worthiness. Might have to send them off to CSI.

My car had a serious clunk sound from the passenger front and it turns out it was the sway bar endlinks, strut mounts (all were shot), and most other bushings on the car. Basically everything but the struts up front is being replaced. So that's good. Oh, and I had my father order my new tires and I was there to have them put on. He ordered the wrong ones and they are exchanging them with the ones that I specified. So that's good.

I'm driving this hoss right now so if you made a midnight trip it'd be for naught.

EDIT: I'm in Lincoln for the next week and a half. The SHO will be waiting to get the tires switched until then.

I have some of the MOOG grease able end links on the front of mine now. next time it is the TRW no grease zerks ones.

The grease makes a mess and all the times I take mine off the upper rubber boot is now ripped and gone. TRW makes the non-grease able ones.

Or I could get a special thin head open end 18 mm wrench. The nut behind the rubber boot is jam nut thickness. A normal wrench will cut into the rubber boots.

ALL the strut mounts were bad? Ouch. :(

BTW thanks for the heads up on the end links, SHOZ123. Those are on the (seemingly endless) shopping list.

So have you gotten your car back and did all the noises go away?

Nope it's still getting fixed. And since my father ordered the tires, he ordered the wrong ones.

Those will arrive middle of next week. So until then, I couldn't tell you if all the noises went away. But I will post after I get the car back. Right now I'm sporting this

What tires are you putting on it?

Just curious. Trying to decide if I want to go the "summer tires on 17s and all-seasons on the stockers" route.

I mean, wth, with all the other money I'm going to be spending what's another $500 on wheels? :p

If you are going to pure summers on the 17s, you might as well go to pure winters on the OEM wheels and get the added safety. The modern performance oriented version of winter tires are remarkably good, considering that getting around in ice and snow is their first goal.
