Clock loose time

The clock in my SHO is loosing time when the headlights are on. It keeps perfect time when there off but when I turn the headlights on, them dim and sort of flash in and out, not displaying a time, just some of the bars that make up the numbers shrug

I really need to fix this, it sorta drives me nut having the wrong time being shown to me.

may sound crazy but have you checked you battery/alternator including belt? could low voltage cause this?

Definately. The added draw of running the lights would cause the clock to lose time if the battery were weak/dying, and/or if you had a bad alternater/belt.

How old is the battery?

As far as I know the alternator is fine, but I'm not sure.

As for the battery it was replaced when I first got it in December last year.

BTW, I have a digital volt meter in my cig lighter socket and my dad said it was fine.

I have observed the same symptom in my daughters 95' slo but haven't been able to find a smoking gun as of yet. I've torn the instrument panel all apart and aside from a pretty funky looking headlight switch plug (deformed from excessive heat) I still am clueless. shrug I guess my next step will be to yank a plug from a junker and swap it into the slo. Current fix is a 1.5 inch piece of electricians tape
