So I went right ahead and purchased the pre cut ebay shit. Ive never done custom vinyl and i have a little bit of OCD.
I started with the hardest part, the corners. Because mechanic rules are "hardest part first"
Mistake.
But it's on. It's done. It actually looks great. One corner I may just buy a wide vinyl and custom cut it on the car. And then do the other corner.
We typically rate paint jobs by feet.
I'll call this an extra observant 5 footer. Regular person 2 footer.
10 feet it looks factory.
Maybe I'm I'm nitpicking. Being too critical expecting concourse on a job rife with compromise.

That came out really well. You did a great job. Tucking those edges are a pain. Seriously came out great.

Hey thanks. Im definitely quite OCD with things like this. What helped with the edges is I bought a $10 kit for vinyl wrapping. It seems to be like 2 different kits combined so you get all the tools and gloves. One video suggested gloves and they were right. Plus I used the cheap $20 heat gun Harbor Freight sells. Worked better than I expected. I really jammed in the corners with every single tool this kit came with.
Kit on Amazon

Did you leave the trim on? Would it have been easier with the trim removed?

Do not remove the trim and try to re-use it It is a complete pain in the ass to remove without damaging it, and it will not go back on easily again. Ask me how I know. Best bet, buy all new trim pieces and wrap them. Then install those onto the car. It maybe more expensive in the short run, but will last longer and look nicer for the long run. I would consider painting them as well.

I absolutely left the trim on. Ive read stories (I believe on here) about trim removal and it never going back on correctly. Also read some car wash banned gen 4s because the fender badges would fly off in the wash even without being messed with first. Not sure if they were being dramatic.
It would have been easier with the trim removed if I used plain sheets and custom cut to fit.
Because I had pre cut pieces, the solid chrome mounted made it easier. I couldnt imagine trying to drape a 2" wide by 30" long curved piece of sticker over a floppy piece of plastic that is sliding all over the place.

I thought about painting. But properly masking would have taken just as long as applying the pre cut vinyl and Im absolutely terrible at painting.
I feel like using brand new pieces and having them professionally painted and installed is the the highest quality and longest lasting option. I can always buy another kit and keep spares to replace pieces as they fail.

If it were mine, I would have the trim powder coated. It will last much longer the paint, regardless of how professional the job was.

The chances of getting the trim off, separating the metal, coating it, putting the metal back on the plastic, then putting the trim back on the car doesn't seem very likely. At the very least, you would probably have to start with new trim.

I can say this is true - I put mine back, in with a friend that helped. They sit weird now, not as flat. There are places that need replace ent parts to address some of the lifting.

It can be done but with patience.
