Was driving out roughly 55 miles an hour when the check engine light started to flash. The engine started to stutter and I limped it all the way to pep boys. Now the car won't start and they could not get the code from the car. Sitting here waiting for a tow to Ford. 2010 with only 18k miles. Any ideas or heard of this before ?

Pretty bummed.

Measure the battery voltage and see what it's reading. Then check the fuses for the OBD port and the PCM. If you find a blown fuse, replace it and try to read the codes again.

Could definitely be the battery (4+ years of age?), and first thing to check/change. Is the engine turning over but not starting, or not even turning over? Did you go WOT to go at 55, or take it relatively easy?

The most common things to check for on the Gen 4.1 SHOs is: cracked spark plug insulator, turbo oil seal leak (may be the turbo oil line also), cracked turbo piping, and chafing knock sensor wiring. Hopefully you can get codes out of it soon to figure out what else might have caused the shutdown.

No mods to it yet, I assume?

Flashing check engine light indicates a misfire.

It turns over, just no start. Getting it to Ford tomorrow morning. No mods yet, surprised I got it all the way to Pepboys the way it was stuttering. It seems like it could be fuel pump? Will know exactly tomorrow.

Got the car to the dealer. We shall see now. The guy there let me know the original owner had an extended warranty. If he has not cancelled it yet he thinks he can transfer it over to me. Have tried calling the original owner a few times but no luck.

Dealer called late yesterday with an update. Had to order a fuel injector and spark plug. Hopefully fixed today. He is also trying to get it covered under the original warranty for me because of such the low miles on the vehicle.

Great to hear! Yeah, forgot about the pesky fuel injector issue, happens on a few here and there. Try to find out which cylinder is affected by the injector/plug. If there's a pattern, we can add that info to our knowledgebase :)

It ended up being the number 5 cyclinder. Free of charge fix. They did warn me of possible damage to catalytic converter or o2 sensor. Sure enough my Dad picked it up for me yesterday and check engine light is back on. Back to the dealership it goes! Luckily I am out of town until January. Hope its patched up by then!

Hopefully will be the last fix needed for a while! Any idea what the code is this time?
