I recently had the alternator or charging system light go on on my way home and was just bare able to make it before the battery died. I first lost the a/c before I noticed the light was on so I shut down all electrical drain in order to stretch the battery.
Anyway, I replaced the altenator, charged my Red Top Optima battery, and started the car, but the warning light did not go out in the dash.
Several years ago I added a "OO" cable that goes from the alternator charging output directly to the battery. This mod does supply a stronger current charge to the battery which can be seen by making my headlights much brighter, and also solved the battery drain problem due to the powerful stereo system which would drain my battery regularly.
Anyway, the owner maual suggests that if the charging system light does not go out after the replacing the alternator, that there are 2 fusible links, that are found close to the starter, which need to be replaced. I have been looking for them for the last several weeks, but I cannot find them.
My charging system works fine, due to the direct cable going from the alternator to the battery. If I put a volt meter directly on the battery posts, it shows 14 volts at idle, but I would like to get rid of the dash light.
Does anybody know where these fusible links are?
Thanks,
Jose
