alrighty I am new here and happy to finally being validated, so here goes
I have a '91 sho w/ 5speed and after letting it sit all summer I need to boost it as I get the cables on I notice smoke coming from the 12v relay on the fender and I notice two of the alt fusible links aren't burnt but the wires on the relay side have been melted clean.

I replace the battery, alternator, relay, cut out fusible links and replace with new. I have to crank it and restart it several times due to what I thought was a lack of fuel in the line from sitting so long. After it starts to run on its own I notice battery light on, i give up and go to bed. next day I check out wires and tightness and fuses after checking out good I go to fire it up and i notice there is no fuel pump noise that I am used to hearing. This car always had a very loud sounding fuel pump so I am curious what do I do now I think it is toast or I am missing something else electrical.

-battery light on
-no fuel pump noise

thanks

Are you sure the replacement alt. is good? Aftermarket replacements (even dealer remans) are notorious for not functioning properly. I learned through personal experience to put the replacement on the alt. tester before leaving the store. I went through 5 in 2 days before I got one that worked correctly.

Make sure the cutoff inertia switch isn't tripped. The switch is in the trunk on the fender wall with a red button. Make sure it is pushed in.

Yep I found that interia switch and its seemed to be in its normal postion, how could I check the soundness of the alternator to see if it isn't a lemon?

I thought I saw something about codes somewhere on this site I will try that too.
thanks
