Very easy just be sure to wire it correctly my up = down & down=up
Take the door panel off and unplug everything. I think theres like two bolts holding it in place, no rivets involved when I did mine. 10 min job.
Buy new clips or your door panel will be loose.

Someone might have replaced yours at one time? everyone I've seen they are riveted in from the factory. just pop the centers out with a punch and drill the rest of the rivet out. I have replaced window motors in other cars using short bolts, but havent replaced motors in a Taurus before, you could probably use short bolts as well like stated above.

when the drivers side rear window in my dads 93 started to slow, and eventually stop working all together..i replaced the motor.

wasnt terribly hard to do at all...there might be a few screws holding the door panel in, then just pry it off. Yea, you'll probably want new clips..i reused the originals and it held the door panel on pretty good, but why skimp.

Although, even after i replaced the motor, tested that it worked, the window froze up again a couple weeks later (d'oh!)

And yea, the motors were just bolted in the 93 as well

No rivets holding the window motors in the Taurus, and that goes for Gens I, II and III. Just bolts.

Not sure what you mean. I'm talking about the window-lift motors.

I can state for certain that the Gen II and III window-lift motors are bolted in, because I had to replace a couple on my SHO about a year ago and another one on my '97 GL only about two weeks ago.

Maybe some early Gen I Taurus had rivets holding the motors, but I don't believe so. I had to have one replaced on my old '89 many years ago and IIRC my buddy (a GM mechanic) who changed it out for me told me it was just bolted in. It's been a while since I had the '89 though and so I'm not 100% sure about that.

all Ford products have window motors riveted to the door. been that way for ages. just drill the rivet heads off, then punch em out. replace with bolts, washers, nuts, and threadlocker.

The front passenger side window-lift motor on my 1997 Taurus GL is bolted in. Just replaced it 10 days ago. The rear window-lift motors in my SHO are bolted in. Replaced/repaired both sides about a year ago and so I am also 100% sure about that, too.

The window-lift motor brackets might be riveted to the door, but you can trust me when I say that the motors themselves are bolted on. ;)

So it seems that some cars came with bolted in window motors, wish mine had them..... my 95 mtx parts car has two large rivits holding the power windows in. My 89 also has rivits. Not sure about my 93's.

I guess so. I wouldn't have thought it, but then again, I wouldn't put it by Ford to do things differently like that, either.

FWIW, here's a pic of one of my SHO's rear window-lift motors that I replaced last year (just a little corrosion, huh?). Note the 3 bolt holes in the motor casing and how the motor bolts to the bracket. You can also see that there are large rivets holding the bracket to the door.

OK guys you are both technically correct. The "regulator" is rivited to the inner door and the "motor" is bolted to the regulator. Both, in combination with each other raise and lower the window. They are a "unit". You can see two of the three/four rivets that hold in the regulator in the picture.

If you remove the regulator the rivets can be replaced with short 1/4 - 20 nuts and bolts. I would use lock nuts. Lubricate the regulator and the regulator tube as well as other moving parts and surfaces.

In my 87 Taurus the motor was bolted, the window was riveted.

Have yet to see how the SHO is setup.

Along those lines, does anyone know how to power the window with it not connected to the car? Like can I just apply power to the motor temporarily?
