Thanks so much!! I was about to just throw the thing back together and hope it doesn't decide to explode again. I will start taking it apart tonight carefully and weld the pins tomorrow. I will get more pictures posted soon too, thanks!

I'm gonna have to order that! I'm sure this won't be the first time this transmission comes out. Next time I'll be far more prepared and have a good system for taking it out and in.

Got the Diff out!! Managed to get the cases split with all of the gears and everything just sitting exactly the way they need to be. I ran into a problem where I couldn't get the cases split more than an inch or so. I found that it was a part on the shift fork shaft. I was able to tap out the little roll pin out enough that I was able to slide it off with the case half. So now all I gotta do is take my diffs to work tomorrow and TIG weld a little ring around the pins so that they can't come out. I will try it on my old diff first for a practice run, then to for the real deal. Thanks for all the help so far guys, I will keep you all posted!

I worked at NASA when I did mine on the "Yamaha" car and I had the opportunity to mill a small slot all the way around the outside of the case and pins, then I used a bonded Kevlar band around it....somewhere out there is a bullet proof stock differential...hope somebody got it and not the crusher!

Ok, I've been trying and trying to weld the old diff pins, but it is not working at all. The welds are turning out like crap. I brushed it really well with an uncontaminated stainless brush, and scrubbed it with acetone. Still coming out terrible. I might just have to put it all back together the way it is and hope it doesn't decide to explode again. Unless there are any other ways to reinforce it..

you can not weld the diff pins... the diff pins are made of hardened steel alloy and the case is Aluminum alloy...the two can not be welded together! I would suggest to remove the roll pins and replace with solid pins, then "pein" the edges of the diff case where the pins are located to push up material and lock the pins into the diff case....i have already do this on my brothers SHO and had no problems to date...that was over 10+ yrs ago.

I wasn't trying to weld the pins to the aluminum case. I was actually trying to weld a "ring" around the edges of the aluminum pins. So there would be extra material around the pins, so that they can't slide out. Same concept as "pein"ing the edges. I checked out the thread that zoomlater left a link for, and someone actually welded the pins themselves together (the 2 short pins to the long pin forming a + ) I did not think of doing it that way. But I'm not sure how I would be able to get my TIG torch down in there. Im going to look into those solid roll pins you suggested though and order them. I do think I'm going to start putting the car back together this weekend though, since I Really need my car back on the road. Especially since it's going into winter, and riding a motorcycle in the winter to work everyday isn't fun. Then I can also get my truck running right, then when it is, I'll pull my transmission back out to reinforce my diff. Or buy another diff to reinforce, and swap them. My ramp system will be better, and I'll be able to get my trans in and out pretty quickly

What should I torque the transmission case bolts to? I cant find any information on that, thanks!

EDIT: I CANNOT get the case halves back together, they just stop half an inch apart and will not go any further. I've been sitting here for an hour trying to figure out what it is, and I can't find Anything in the way, everything is going correctly into place. Now my sealant is drying and getting all dirty from my greasy hands touching it. I'm gonna have to buy amother tube of sealant and restart. This is getting really frustrating.

Hope you are using anerobic sealant, which won't harden until there is an abscence of oxygen (created when the case halves are torqued together). Should wipe right off with brake cleaner or similar if the halves have not been mated.

It has been years since I split and resealed a SHO trans (felt like brain surgery compared to rebuilding an engine), but vaguely recall something about the shift input rod needing to be in the correct position (and maybe moved as the case halves come together?). I have Bizzy's instructions on how to disassemble, but they do not include much on reassembly other than a warning not to use RTV, and to use Permatex Anerobic instead.

I am using Permatex Anerobic sealant, and you're right, it's been a couple days and it's not dry. I'm buying that DVD the shows you how to do it all, so I don't get too frustrated and screw something up lol

Has anyone been having any problems buying from Shonut Performance? I purchased that DVD on how to rebuild your MTX, and it's been nearly 3 weeks, and I haven't received anything, or a tracking number. They won't respond to my emails either. I got my MTX back together, and back in the car, and it turns out it won't shift. It's completely STUCK. So I have to pull it back out, and take it back apart, which is why I bought this DVD. And there not sending it. I really wanted to have it back together by Christmas, but it's looking like that's not even gonna happen.

Did you try a direct email to Josh or a message to him through the forum? I'm not sure how much he is selling directly through his website these days. I know the shosource guys were selling some of his products. Maybe they can help you.
