Changing Oxygen Sensor - 'effed' up the threads

I was removing my old OX sensor. It was a PITA - guess the shop didn't use anti-seize when they put the new Y-pipe on.

Anyway, it sort of pulled out during the last 2 threads or so and messed them up in the y-pipe - can't get the new one started.

I looked on-line and there's a 18mm thread chaser sold. Anyone know if this is the correct size, because I also found a spark plug chaser that has a 14 and 18 mm end at Autozone.

I think my SHO is cursed - we changed the OX sensor on my buddies Civic in like 5 minutes!!!

I don't know alot about stuff like this but can you just get a tap & die and re-thread it?

yeah tap and die em thats why i got a huge set of them so i dont get those problems.

i recommend thread lok brand anti seize they got this copper shit thats for very high temp like 1300 + degree
i used it on my o2's and i just had them out yesterday, smooth as silk

The problem you have is that the first two threads are boogered up. If you just shove a tap or chaser in them it may start to follow a screwed up thread and you end up cutting off the good threads farther in. So be real careful how you start the tool, no wrenches allowed for the first couple of turns.
By the way, a tap is meant to cut threads, it will just cut off the bad part of the thread "peak" possibly not leaving much of a thread to use. A chaser tries to push bad ones back into place.

IIRC it is the 18mm thread. You should be able to find a spark plug thread chaser that size.

Thanks for the info. I got the 14mm / 18mm Spark plug thread chaser and it took like 10 min to fix and get the new one in.
