I have a CD player...but it does nothing. LOL The stock radio was dead, so I pulled it out and put a '94 model radio in to replace it. It works just fine, but since my amp is no good, I get no sound...not a problem, I can fix that. Problem is that when I put a CD into the CD player, it doesn't "suck" it in like it's supposed to...it just sits there. There's no display or anything. Is it dead?? Everything was hooked up in the back last time I checked, but damn...this is kind of odd. Is it dead? Just bad wiring? Any suggestions? Also, does the CD player have a battery cell like the radio that melts down after 10 years and you have to replace it as well? If so, let me know and I'll get a new CD player. Thanks in advance guys! Later!

Well if the wires are fine I would say go out and buy a good aftermarket cd player. Kenwood, JVC, and Alpine are good.

Yes, all the wires are plugged in okay...I'm gonna' pull it out later today and check all the wires...wiggle them around while the CD player's supposedly turned on and see if that makes a difference...but other than that, I don't know. I don't want anything aftermarket on the radio because I want everything fairly stock looking, inside and out. It lowers the value of the car when reselling it if you have aftermarket stereo and things of that nature. And besides, I actually like the setup of the radio...it has cassette and CD...and I use both on occation.

If anyone has a cheap CD player, I'd probably wanna' take it off your hands in a few weeks. As for the AMP, I haven't found one yet, but a good price would be invited if anyone's got a cheap unused one out of a stock SHO stereo system. Thanks!

If you are not up for a project, replacing the stock CD is the easiest solution. Since you have checked the connections, I guess you can see how ridiculously easy it is to remove the CD player. When mine stopped working, I called a local junkyard and bought a CD player from a '97 Mustang and slid it right in (5 minute job). You can also find them on eBay - same CD unit for most Ford vehicles from like '92 to '97 or so.

HOLY $#!T, are you serious?? That's so freakin' easy!!! That's cool, I'm gonna' get one of those CD players then! How about the amps used in the SHOs...are there any other cars that use the same amps by chance?? The mustangs have a similar system as well, don't they? PLEASE say yes!

Well if you find out that your stock CD player is toast, check eBay for a replacement stock take out unit. I got mine from a '99 Mustang, then had to find the correct inner connect harness.

For what it is worth, the '92 - '97 Mustang CD player plugs right in. No new plugs/wiring required. I am pretty sure the same thing goes for the Thunderbird for those years.

For Jersey Fred - I have a '93' MTX with premium sound and sub but no CD. Do you know if all the connections will be there to plug in one of those CD players prior to "97'? As long as I have the harness will it be that simple for me?
Thanks a ton,
Jayman

RADIO/AMP FIXED!! Still need CD Player though. And yes, I'm gonna' go stock on this one. I found out that part of the problem was a bad amp, and the other part was the CD Player is bad...so if the CD Player goes out, the radio won't work and you have to put in a short plug in place of the CD Player connector. Very odd. VERY cool, though, cause I got the Amp for free!!! Got it at Autocraft, which is the company that is Ford Authorized to work on all Ford stock radio systems! Ford doesn't even work on them themselves, they bring in the guys from Autocraft. lol Very odd. But a guy up there at Autocraft said my amp is so old, they've only got one left, and it had been on the shelf for two years...so if I'd swap my bad one for the good one he had, he'd call it even!! I said, "**** yeah!" LOL So I have a radio and tape player now...and I can plug in a cassette for the CD player if I want to listen to my portable CD player in the car...but I will replace the CD player soon enough.

Talk to you guys later, and thanks again!

OH!! Good info! Found out that ALL CD players in ANY Ford from like 92 - 97 are the same! So that's cool...good to know. Hope this helps some other people. So find some poor old fogi's Crown Vic and take the CD player out of it. JUST KIDDING!! hehehe

A moderator can close this one if ya' like. Problem solved.
