Hey all, lots of questions lately

I’m all about preserving my car and doing whatever I can to make sure it stays in good shape and I don’t ruin anything. I don’t do launches or beat on my shit, occasionally I’ll do a pull through 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear but that’s about it.

My question is, are catch cans worth it? I run Mobile 1 synthetic oil extended performance (I think it’s called) which is good for “10,000 miles”, although I’ll still probably change it out around 6,000-7,000 miles. I guess this is actually two questions.

1. Are catch cans worth the money? Are there any downsides to catch cans?
2. What oil do you guys run? Would you trust a synthetic oil saying it’s good for 10k miles?

Thanks guys.

I’d say yes, a dual valve can is worth it. They don’t solve the problem, but I have to believe they help. I’ve scoped my valves three times over maybe 50K miles and while nasty, never worse than the first time.

As for oil, I use castrol full synthetic changed religiously at 3,000. Have had several Blackstone oil reports ran and all have came back positive urging me to go longer between changes. But, with the “within normal range” fuel dilution present I choose to stick with as fresh as possible.

I installed a UPR catch can about 10 months ago, I check it every 3K when I change the oil and only get about a tea spoon out of it. One thing it does do is keep the intake tubing from the intercooler to the throttle body much cleaner. I used to get an oily seepage at the joint at the throttle body, but since installing the catch can no more oily residue.

Dual does that mean I need to buy two of these?

I have had this product, it's only collecting from the dirty side. I am waiting for the money for a UPR dual or similar. The dual collects dirty back pressure on both sides using the vacuum from clean and dirty based 9n which way pressure is building.

Yes a catch can is worth it. Every oil change (3k miles) I pull at least 3 oz of crap out of it.
