Kind of a odd thread but I was thinking today how impressive the gen 4 SHO really is. I have owned 13 different sport cars in my life and nothing has impressed me more than this car. I have a 2010 with magnaflow exhaust roush intake and livernois tune and I run mid 12's quarter mile everytime. I get around 24mpg as I use this car as a daily driver. I was trying to think of other cars that could compare with the performance price and mpgs and I can think of anything. I looked up cars that run 12's stock and nothing does unless you have 80 grand to spend on a car or want a srt-8 vehicle that has horrible mpg and is useless in the winter. I looked at cars that i could modify for a reasonable price to hit 12's and the only thing I could come up with is a STI but they have bad reliability issues( I owned one) and really are just really fast econo cars with a great AWD. I know useless thread but I was just think about how impressive the car really is. My friend has a rs4 and he runs a couple of tenth quicker and he gets 17-19 mpgs and he spend a ton of money and continues to spend tons of money on dealer required maintenance.

A new Charger SRT8 Super Bee stripper for $43K does the 1/4 at 12.8 at 112. Rated at 14/23MPG. Probably cheapest 12 second car off the show room floor.

Corvette?

As far as STi's... We had a similar conversation on IWSTI where someone challenged an STi to run high 11's for $2,500. After displaying the parts and prices, my statement followed with, "$1,860 with my own tuning. Figure $500 more if you can't do it yourself."

It's definitely no luxury car which is why my replacement will be a 997 CS if I can get myself to part with my STi.

Have to compare new cars. Don't know how people spend $40K+ on a STI. Maybe I'm getting too old. At least it now has a power driver's seat and backup camera.

The SHO is a bargain when bought used, nothing else matches the performance and luxury. Even new with the $10K rebates, it's a great deal. I'm averaging 23MPG in my stock '13 PP.

You can pick up an 09/10 CTS-V sedan for around $35-$45K right now depending on it's current state. I paid $47K for my 11 CTS-V coupe with headers, pulley, lowered, Forgeline wheels with 19K miles. For around $5K worth of parts and labor I'm now running mid 10's and with next revision high 9's (adding a 200 shot). Easiest car I've ever bought to modify and go fast, ZL1 would be right there as well BUT the caddy is so quiet and refined it's not funny.
Here's my old Flex racing a stock V (guy had bought it that day and took it to the track)

The key is the faster your car can go the less MPG it's going to have, it's just a fact of life. Luckily I work from home so gas mileage isn't a concern. My V gets around 6MPG now on E85 BUT I can't keep my foot out of it.
It sounds freaking AMAZING with the new cam and exhaust

The supercharger whine is addicting

Can the V beat Godzilla? Yes, yes it can!

You can pick up a 10 SHO for $19K now BUT you'll hit a wall at the low 12's and if you're lucky high 11's that will be hard to pass unless you go full crazy man and do the fuel system and aux injector setup I did for E85 and additional fueling. If I would have had a SHO the weight difference alone would have put my 12.3 in my Flex into the 11.7 range easily and at a good track low 11's. I still have most of the parts laying around, maybe one day I'll pick up a cheap used SHO and go at it again.
