looking on Rockauto.com I have been looking to get a new carpet for my SHO. however when I go to the taurus SHO there is no option to select a new carpet. However If I went up and clicked on an Taurus LX then there is an option to select the carpet.

is there really a difference between the SLO and SHO carpets? because I was thinking about just ordering the one for the LX.

you should be able to make the LX one work in the SHO - you will need to cut a few places for the console and possibly to let the wiring for the power seats through, but otherwise it should be the same.

thats what I was thinking, I know the bodies of the car are the same so I didn't think there would be any major differences between the two. because the carpet does come pre-molded.

You would be better off finding some fairly clean OEM carpet from the junk yard and cleaning the beejeebus out of it. Takeit to a quarter car wash and go nuts.

Replacement hundred dollar carpet sucks.

yeah well I would be ordering it in black. been to a ton of junkyards around here, haven't found any black interior at all. so this is my reasoning for ordering new.

and why would they make a 100 dollar replacement and not have it fit or be molded right? makes no sense to me.

Fitment is what separates a $300 replacement from a $100 replacement. But no one cares about their old Taurus enough to warrant making a really nice carpet, so the $100 replacement is all we get.

replacement carpets fit ****** for the same reason replacement fenders fit ******. it costs a TON of money to make the needed molds, and almost as much to improve the molds.

if your a car maker that needs 100,000 of a carpet its WAY easier to fund mold changes then it is to be a repop carpet maker that might sell 500 replacement carpets in their life time.

this is why OEM parts are 3, 4 or 10 times as much as a knock off.

I have an impalass.com carpet in my '90. It's been in my car for years and years and it still looks new. The $100 carpet I put in before was worn looking in 6 months.

I've helped my friend dye the maroon carpet black in his Dakota and it came it out almost like it was never maroon. It's been in there for over 5 years and still looks great. The only way you can tell it was maroon is if spread the threads and look deep at the base, there's still a bit of maroon tint. The dye was a carpet rattle can paint too. I don't even think we took it out of the car, just the seats, counsel, etc and masked off the dash & interior trim with newspaper.

I was lucky enough to find a '93 with a really clean black interior at an auction to strip out for my interior swap, but I'm sure if you just find a clean one and you dye it really well, you'll barely be able to tell the difference.
