The car has been running fine since the 3.2 swap. It had some trouble starting when it was cold, but not when warm. Well, yesterday it was running fine all day then decided just to not start when I was trying to leave my friend's house. headbang
The car has power and I cant figure out what could be wrong.
It has power comming from the battery. Alternator is fine. My friend said he checked the power on the starter and it had power to it. He also said the relays were clicking so they should be good too.
When I try to start it, nothing happens. I hear the fuel pump prime up but nothing is happening to the engine.
Anybody have any ideas on where i should be starting to look at ? shrug

Thanks in advance for the help.

I take it that the car isn't cranking over? Maybe the starter solenoid?

Moving over to Engine and driveline troubleshooting section.

1995 3.2 MTX, so no seperate starter solenoid on the fender well. But I would guess that you are having a problem with the built in starter solenoid that's actually part of the starter. 90% chance that you need a new starter if part of the starter has power but isn't turning over. You'd really need to check the starter solenoid outputs while cranking the engine to be sure. Just be very careful if doing that. On a side note the starter solenoids love to just go out like that, usually giving you a couple of hard starts before completely failing just like your's did.

Edit: You are getting the solenoid clicking but eventually you won't even get that. You also might want to try tapping the starter with a hammer a few times.

The DIS will cause the car to not crank over when it's not working, if I'm remembering correctly. Since you worked on that, that would probably be the first place to look.

Also, the first part of your post about the car not idling: I first thought that either the IAC is not connected, as shown in this pic (the one on the top, it is super easy to miss when you put the intake back on) or the intake did not seal correctly when you put it on.
JD I think you are responding to the wrong post :)

Are the starters the same between 3.0 and 3.2 ?
I'll probably end up buying a new one. Anybody know the cheapest place to pick one up?

Also, how hard would it be to replace ?

No not all starters are the same. Very easy to change IMHO. Need to disconnect the neg battery lead at the battery, then disconnect all the electrical connections at the starter. Remove the nut on the stud at the starter 15mm i believe. Remove the battery cable off the stud. Remove the 13mm bolt and 13mm stud and the starter comes right out. You will probably have to twist and turn the starter a little to get it out under the car. Install in reverse order. Cost for a new starter depends on which kind you need (year SHO). I believe the 95's should be somewhere around $120. Do some shopping around.

Well, since I have the 3.2 now, I need the 3.2 starter right?
I'm sure that was a really dumb question but I just dont want to buy the 3.2 starter then find out i need the 3.0 one for some reason.

BTW - Thanks for the replies everybody

Well, i tried to pull it today. I found 3 terminals with wires and nuts on them. I disconnected those but I can't get the starter out. It was getting pretty dark and I didn't have a flashlight, but it looks like its being held in by some hex bolts aswell. Those dont need to come out? Should I just be able to pull it out now that I have those nuts undone?

Besides the electrical connections and battery cable attched to it the starter is only held in by one bolt and one stud. They go into the starter from the drivers side and there should be the bolt on the top and the stud on the bottom. Once those two are out just give it a little wiggle and it comes right out.

Edit: No don't take any hex head bolts out... just the electrical connects and the other two I told you about. The bottom stud has a nut on it you take off then pull the battery cable off the stud. Then take out the stud and the top bolt. That's it.

Here's a frontal pic of the starter with the bolt and stud you need to remove circled in red. It looks like the stud is at the top in my car though, which is right. Starter pic
