My car won't start .Let me tell you whats been happening. Last night I was locking the door using my keyless entry remote. After about 7 seconds the interior light would come on and wouldn't turn off . I figured the keyless entry box was messed up since it has been given me problems before-(abount 3 months ago it kept "locking" the doors, anyway that went away." so I took it home and removed the connections from the keyless entry box except the antenna plug,-only on the 93 models. This morning started fine took it for a ride , came home took it for another ride, then this time it wont start. I checked the fuses and saw that fuse no.5 was fried with alittle bit of moisture there too. How? Listing for the 5 fuse are 1.backup lamps 2.electronic climate 3.hazrd flashers 4.light for keyles entry 5.rear window defroster. replaed the fuse but the car would not even crank. fuel pump switch checked. listen for fuel pump -working. I'm stumped. My electronic climated works, hazrds work. Whats going on . Please help. I hope its not going to cost an arm and a leg.I just got a job and now I can't get there.
Also I checked all the fuses under the hood, they are good.

You say when you turn the key, the engine doesn't crank. Are the lights dimming while you are trying to turn it over? Is there a telltale "clicking" sound that would point at a bad starter?

NO, the battery is fine no dimming and no clicking of a bad starter the only thing -is that my return line check valve would make it a rumble.but now all of a sudden no rumble. I have the 155 fuel pump put in last lear. ????

Well, if the engine won't even turn over, the fuel pump is not the problem. Bad ignition switch perhaps?? Also, the starter solenoid could be completely toasted, therefore not making the clicking noise.

Edit: Try reconnecting your keyless entry. I have no experience with this, as my SHO does not have keyless entry, but perhaps there is a security feature that was inadvertantly activated by disconnecting the box.

Try cleaning the battery terminals, because I know they make the car act weird and sometimes won't start if there's some acid inbetween.

First step: go to http://www.ford-taurus.narod.ru/ click on 1993, then Часть 5.

When the .pdf finally loads (give it plenty of time), go to page 2 and print it out. You will then have a diagram of your starting system.

You will need a meter for the following steps. An inexpensive one is fine, all you will be doing is measuring DC voltage.

Since you indicate that you have lights, radio, etc, the battery is putting out something. Measure it anyway with no loads turned on. It should measure between 12.3 and 12.7 V. Then, turn the headlights on and repeat the measurement. A good battery will still supply over 12 volts when the lights are on for quite awuile.

Looking at the circuit, you can see that it is very simple. When the key is turned to START, power is applied to the clutch interupt switch for MTX cars (on the upper part of the clutch pedal) or the Manual Lever Position Sensor for ATX cars (located on the top of the transmission. Since you didn't bother to tell us what tranny you have.....

The output of either switch goes to the starter solenoid. On your car, this is mounted on the starter itself. It will be the small wire. Look for battery voltage when the ignition is in START and the interlock is satisfied (clutch pedal depressed or the gearshift in either PARK or NEUTRAL). The normal clicking noise that you should near is the sound of the solenoid (also called the Bendix) engaging. You should also read battery voltage at the large wire to the starter at all times.

There you have it. Simple to troubleshoot, but a PITA to get to the individual test points.

Good luck!

Steve brings up a good point. Is it MTX or ATX? Possible that the Pedal Position Switch on the mtx could be bad, or the atx version of the switch. To "jump" the starter, it's easiest if it's out of the car and lock it in a vice. Then just use a car battery and jumper cables and positive to positive, negative to negative.

Guys Thanks for all your help-Turns out with the slightest tap ever on the starter- I tried to give it a shot and it started. I got a lifetime warrenty from Murrarys but they have to search for my "brand" cause they might not carry it any more . I bought it at 139 and the new "brand" they carry is priced at 179. Bought mine in aug of 99.

Tell them you didn't buy it because of the brand name, you bought it from them with the understanding that they would provide the lifetime warranty. You would very much appreciate it if they would promptly provide you with a suitable replacement without regard to the "brand" or the current price.

Then stand there and wait for the manager to provide you with a new starter.
