What could be wrong with a '93 SHO ATX to make the car so easy to steer? It takes very little effort to steer this thing. It has not always been like this, just all of a sudden...

Been lonely??

God kills kitten

:laugh_ti: Man, I'm funny....

No, really....your car has something called VAPS, or Variable Assist Power Steering....if you notice, when you corner at speeds over 45 mph, the steering's a buttload tighter. It's designed so that in close quarters (parking lots, slow traffic situations, etc) the car's easier to turn, but at higher speeds, it takes more effort so you don't steer yourself into the ditch or something.

I, personally, find it to be a major pain in the ass....

Yes i am lonely. I need a ******.
anyway. The problem is the car is not only easy to steer in parking lots at slow speeds, but also driving on the freeway :nut: . It really keeps you on your toes on the freeway.lol. It is way too sensitive. Alot more than what it used to be!

i swear if i had the window down the wind might be able to turn my steering wheel is how easy it is.

Yep.

Either the VAPS is stuck on a "soft" (high assist) setting or the rack has gone to crap.

Is it feasible to do away with the vaps rack and install a non vaps rack?
I did have the steering column down a while back, i may have left something disconnected on the column :nut: when i put it back up?
That was from a heater core and evaporator core replacement.
On the other hand, i have noticed an unusual power steering fluid color almost immediately in the resovoir a while back when i replaced the engine with a used one. hmmm.

As an update.. I aquired an Orielly's 2 port rack and the correct power steering line for a non VAPS rack. A friend of mine put it in the car in exchange for an amp laying around.
The parts total was only $86 LOL.
Now the car steers like it should

3.2 and 3.0 are the same pump, but different size pullies. The 3.2 only has one accessry belt, and the 3.0 has two, so the pullies are different widths. The diameter different does not make a difference, since it is corrected by the different harmonic balancer.
