OK, this has happened twice now. Car basically quits, but idles fine. I was going down the interstate and it just fell flat on it's face. Pulled over to the side and it was still idling. Every time I tried to give it some gas, it would gag. I let off the accelerator, it would idle fine. Both times, I shut the car off, started it back up and it ran fine.

I was thinking possible fuel pump, but the pumps for this car are pretty expensive and I would want to be sure before replacing it.

Check engine light never came on, no codes in the computer. It's a '97 with 160K, welded cams, and as far as I can tell, all original coils.

Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone know if Carlos Leon still works on SHO's? He did my cams a couple of years ago and I was very happy with his work. I have since lost his phone number and it appears as if he is now unlisted.

Is there anything I need to know about cleaning it (i.e. places not to get cleaner) or is just a spraying with carb cleaner OK?

A non-residue electrical contact cleaner or CRC brand MAF cleaner would be best. You should be able to find one or both at most auto parts stores, probably about $3.99 for a can.
