I had my 93 SHO at the mechanics for some maintenance and I asked him to check codes. He hooked up his code reader and it couldn't read codes from my car. Is this a case of a bad wire somewhere? Is there something that commonly causes this issue? Any advise on where to start would be much appreciated. Also, I'm considering getting my own code reader. Any advise on what works well without breaking the bank?

Thanks in advance.

depending on the brand of code reader, I have seen many that don't want to read the codes properly.

the simple solution is just count the pulses on the check engine light.

how do you count check engine light pulses? I remember doing this on my old 89 daytona. How do I start the check process? Is there a list on here with confirmed working code readers?

I was searching for it yesterday and I couldn't find it. Also the search on these forums is very slow and there is time delay between searches. I did try! :angelnot:

I did find that thread when I searched the first time and read the whole thing. It did not answer either of my questions. I also dug through the "how to" section and didn't find anything there. That's why I posted here.

you connect the single connector to the terminal circled in red on the large connector with a simple jumper of wire or paperclip.

you get in the drivers seat

you carefully count the pulses. they will repeat for each section (current and stored) and the 2 sections are separated by a single pulse.

you look up the codes you have found.

to reset, you pull out the jumper while the codes are being flashed.
