Weird, I've dont many Brake pad/rotor jobs on my different sho's over the years, and never ran into this one.

lastnight I was putting new pads and rotors on my 92, and I could not get the passengers side front rotor off. The drivers side just fell off when I took the caliper off, but the pass side doesn't want to come off. I smacked it a few times figuring it would break loose, but nope....still didn't want to come off. I may have to try a wheel puller......

Anybody have this experience?

Yeah, why don't you do that! I think I'll try heating it up, then cooling it quickly.....maybe that'll work?? You keep your greasy paws off my FN74's! I'll be sure to hide them.:nut:

Yeah when all else fails, beat the **** out of it. I always worry too much about damaging something, but when it comes down to it, the more force the better. Especially since you're replacing it, just use a BFH. I bought one of those that I keep in the trunk of the SHO just for situations like that now. It's a nice $16 mallet from Lowes and usually gets the job done.

Pound the wheel studs out with a regular sized claw hammer, the rotor should then come right off.

Besides beating on it (tried with 5 lb sledge) does anyone know if they make a puller for the rear discs?

The rear (OEM Ford anyway) discs do not have the two little (typically 8 mm x 1.25 I think) holes where you can thread a couple of bolts in and push the rotor off the hub.

So far I have tried PB Blaster on the stud bases and centerbore along with tapping and hammering the disc edge, heat (MAP torch) and beat as second step (until the plastic centercap got as hot as I dared), and lastly this morning before work I sprayed PB Blaster from the ABS sensor ring side where the rotor meets the hub.

Stock rear rotor with 100 K miles including New England winters.

All you need is one good hit with enough weight to pop it loose.

Like this :smash:

Alternatively... have you thought about buying it a drink?
