Can someone explain?

Alright, today I was driving home and I was coming off an off ramp, and its one of those situations where the lane you pull into coming off, is the same lane everyone is coming into to get on going the other direction. Theres a lot of traffic and I floor it to make my way through, as I do this, I see another car starting to get in front of me, I let off, then floor it again. The car revs up, then I thought it died. I look down at the tach is dead nuts on 3grand. I had it floored still and then it starts to tach up and then I let off again. Everything seems to be running fine and I didn't notice anything leaking.[I'm going to check again in a few minutes]

Does anyone have an explanation for what the heck happened, I though I was going to be picking pieces of my car off the road.

I had the pedal floord, I let off for a second, floored it again. Engine revs like its been floored, but then just goes to three grand and sat there for a second or two, then went back to normal.

Drop your tranny pan and look for clutch/steel material.

Sounds like a SHO-BOOM in the tranny from your limited description.
