I first read about direct injection and forced induction in (IIRC) Popular Mechanics back in the '80s, so I'm somewhat surprised it took over two decades for them to see the light of day. But I'm not really surprised Mazda hasn't spread it--from what I've heard, DI engines are quite a bit more expensive to build than similar regular EFI engines, and Mazda can't really go much farther upmarket than they already are. Volvo, on the other hand, would be a good candidate, but their fascination with light-pressure turbos and inline engines may be getting them where they want to be without it.I'm a bit surprised that Mazda, hasn't made DI more widespread, at least on their top of the line cars. You'd think the Mazda 6 V6 would have used DI when it was revamped, or maybe the CX-9. I'm completely blown away that Volvo hasn't.
IIRC, Bosch did the Mazda 2.3 DISI Turbo on the MPS6/3 and CX-7, but ford uses its own system for the Ecoboost.
