I got the tranny off and slid it down two 4x4 posts onto a dolly...Intake came off nice and a couple of the plug wells were shiny, nothing terrible really. I've been cranking on the crank bolt, I think it moved a little, but I'm gonna give it a rest. Can you guys tell me more about the heat idea. ...I know you torch it for a half minute or so...and then do you try the impact while it is still hot...expanded?? that seems like asking for trouble....or do you wait for it to cool, the idea being that it has expanded and contracted micron and then may release??/
Someone had already taken out one of the horizontal bolts and someone tried to get the tranny off a while back and chipped the two lower mounting holes on the bell housing, I...got all of the off except one on the far right, I guess I wasn't patient enough or it was weakened by rust...anyway, I broke off one bolt head, so that'll have to be tapped out I guess to re-use this bell housing...
Does the throwout bearing have a cotter pin or something that is supposed to go through the shift fork and into that bearing?? Cause there was nothing there..Seems like there's need to be a pin or something...maybe that's what happened?? The throwout bearing cam loose and they tried to open up the tranny to fix it and then after breaking of two small places on the bottom edge of the bell,,,,they gave up...just guessing of course...
Let me hear your thoughts when you have time...esp about the heating the crank bolt to try to get it to release
thx
