If anybody else can comment on this also..........don't mean to steal thread....If 3.0 cams and caps used in 3.2 head will there be tolerence issues? I don't want to take valve covers off again and switch caps back. Every thing torqed to specks 2 stages no problem and no fitment issues.

Yes there will most likely be a problem. You might have got lucky, but I doubt it. These engines are very consistent, so there's a small chance you might be OK...

Now...why? you ask?

When the heads are built, the cam caps are installed on the head (but not the cams). Then, they have a large boring machine that hones all of those journals. This operation makes each and every cam cap slightly different and perfectly matched to the journal they are installed on. When they are finished honing the journals, the caps are marked for their positions and removed so that the cam can be installed.

OK, good.

Glad you didn't start it. If you had, I'd say you should leave it and hope for the best.

Don't forget the caps are engraved with the journal they belong to. Get the right caps on the right journals, or you run the very same risk.

I'm sure he just wanted a second opinion. And the way I worded it, not only reinforced what you stated, it offered a little bit more of an explanation; the main steps in align honing..

Here's a good article on the process. The job being performed is on main journals, but the same thing applies to cam journals.

im planing a 3.2 atx mtx swap in the weeks to come now should i still swap the 3.0 intake cams into the 3.2 and witch caps should i use the ones out of the 3.2 or the 3.0?
thanks guys:munch:

I have done this many times.
The cam caps must stay with there origional head. They are "married".
Swap the 3.o intake cams while your in there.
