Does anyone have the link to what the cam sounds like when its about to go out? I really need to hear it. I turned on the 98 and it sounded kinda like a sewing machine sound like its been described. It wasnt that loud but I could easily hear it inside the car. Ok so I drive it to school like 2 blocks away to pick something up and when I get back home I turn off the music because it feels like its not idiling right. I no longer hear the sound but the car is vibrating during idle slighty. So I pop the hood and I hear like this hissing noise along with the engine. Lately the car doesnt seem as peppy occasionally and it seems to get worse. Also sometimes when you just keep a constant speed you can feel it bucking real lighty. I ran codes and came up with nothing. I'm planning on getting the cams welded soon hopefully or getting a warranty. The car has 29,000 on it. I pray this isnt the Cams already. Should I stop driving it or what? Someone please help?!

I doubt it is the Cam problem. The sewing machine sound is probalby the injectors, or the timing chain. From the inside of the cabin, at idle, you can hear the chain from the passenger side. I thought I had a Cam failure too, but Doug from FPS said that was a normal noise of the chain. I think a lot of people are over reacting. Not that you shouldn't worry about it, because you should think about it...but at 29,000 miles, I could probably assure you that it isn't. From what i have heard, if you had a cam failure, the car would not run and if it did, it would barely run.

If your cam(s) are going, trust me, you will know it just by hearing it. Mine resembled a loud ticking sound coming from the rear cylinder bank. It sounds nothing like normal engine sounds from an OHC engine. It is extremely loud. It's so loud that people will ask you whats wrong with the car.
