I may throw in the towel this time. Started making a ticking noise. I haven't tore into it and dont know if I will. Right now its parked and I dont know if I dare start it. 167k miles and pretty sure cams arent welded.

Other things might be causing the noise, but if the cams are not welded, at that mileage there is a good chance the cam sprockets are starting to slip. Disassembly, repositioning correctly, and then welding are really the only solutions for this.

Yes, that's my feeling and I'm not interested in working on it anymore. Guess it will be parked until I can figure out what to do with it. Putting another $500 plus into just doesn't make much since and that's if I could find someone local to weld them.

You don't need a SHO cams specialist, you just need a mechanic experienced with TIG welding (and maybe others SHO cams). Not sure if we can repair them.

You should be able to inspect at least the front CAM by just removing the valve cover. The rear may not be much fun, but isn't that hard to get into... Just need a few hours with a #8 & #10 sockets, unless you have an air ratchet. I was basically that far last weekend when fixing my broken head coolant hoses...

Just a thought....
