With an aftermarket deck I suggest getting the amp by pass kit. That HU will have more power and a cleaner sound than the stock amps. I tried running with the stock amps with the inline attenuator. It did not sound very good. With the new speakers, it should sound clear with the aftermarket HU. If you have the stock sub, the bypass kit will also bypass this. If you want lows, aftermarket will sound better anyway.

I recommend laying some new stereo wire, the ford wire is very thin, and not well suited for your new radio, just lay lines to the speakers from teh headunit, not hard/expensive. Takes an hour or two. IMO Craig

anyone know a part number for an amp bypass kit or where I coud find one? For the timebeing I can't afford to rewire my car, but I am planning on pulling out my factory amps, sub, and reas speakers. My basslink already beats the **** outta the stock sub, which is just kinda "in the way" now.

On first gen cars there are a set of connectors next to the head unit in the dash that go directly to the speakers. Actually is what Ford did with the prem. sound systems and JBL systems was leave the standard wiring for the base stereo and run an extra set of wiring from the head unit back to the amps then back to the head unit area and finally out to the speakers. On my '90 if you take the head unit out and look to the left in the dash you will see a set of connectors that look like the ones that plug into the back of the factory head unit, on of the connectors is the speaker connection for the door speakers and back deck speakers (not the sub channel though). If you get a harness adptor for and Ford that does not have premium sound the speaker connection wull plug right in and bypass the amps but you will not have the factory subs anymore. Like I said this is on a first gen but I don't see why It would bee any differant on a second gen.

Can anyone with a gen2 coraborate this? When I had my headunit out for my MP3 player install I didn't see any other connectors back there, but then again I was really looking for it.

They are difficult to find unless you know where to look. They are not behind the radio but are on one side or another. You kinda have to look inside the hole to see them. They are to the left in my '90 but they were to the right in an '88 Sable I use to have.

I have a Gen 2 (1994 SHO)and am using the second wiring. If you have the radio pulled out, mine was towards the drivers side. Just put your hand in there and feel around...its there but is held to the side by a small clip of some sort....just pull on it a little and it should give loose. The wiring that you buy to bypass the amps connects right to the second wiring harness that is in there. One way to verify that your car is dual wired is by looking at a speaker in the rear deck. If there are 2 sets of wires (2 wires going into the positive and 2 into the negative)connected to the speaker, your car is dual wired. (I believe all JBL audio systems are dual wired to bypass the amps.) One set of wires goes through the amps, the other set bypasses them.

Hope this helps... thumbs_u
