When I open my driver door to get in the car (2011 non PP) it makes a buzzing sound, like an electric motor running. It actually sounds a lot like the fuel pump coming on in my 98 Chevy 1500. Anybody else experience/notice this? Maybe it is the fuel pump building pressure to start since, with the push button start, you don't turn the key past ignition before engaging the starter.

Doesn't seem like a malfunction or anything. Just curious as to what it is. Any input is appreciated.

My 2011 did this. normal fuel pump process I belive, my 2013 does it when you press the brake pedal before startup. Not as audible on the newer models.

Yep, it's the high pressure fuel pump priming the system for the Direct Injection. It will do that if you open the trunk as well, as long as several seconds have elapsed since the last compartment was opened. Ie: if you open your trunk, put something in, close the trunk, then open the driver's door the pump will not prime the system again upon opening the door.

I get the same thing but I'm pretty sure it's coming from my drivers side seat. It sounds like the lumbar is moving for some reason. If it's the fuel pump, then it sure sounds like it's mounted under my seat!

Memory seats, including the "Easy Entry" feature, most likely?

OM:
The memory positions are also recalled when you press your remote
entry transmitter (unlock) control (if the transmitter is programmed
to a memory position) or, when you enter a valid personal entry code
that is programmed to a memory position. The mirrors will move to the
programmed position and the seat will move to the easy entry position.
The seat will move to the final position when the ignition is activated (if
easy entry feature is enabled).

Easy entry/exit feature (if equipped)
This feature automatically moves the driver’s seat rearward 2 in. (5 cm)
when:
• the transmission is in N (Neutral) or P (Park)
• the key is removed from the ignition cylinder or the push button start
system (if equipped) is switched off (refer to Push button start
system in the Driving chapter).
The seat will move to the original position when:
• the transmission is in N (Neutral) or P (Park)
• the key is placed in the ignition cylinder or when the push button
start system (if equipped) is put in accessory mode/started (refer to
Push button start system in the Driving chapter).
The easy entry feature can be turned off or on through the vehicle
message center. Refer to Message center in the Instrument Cluster
chapter.
